Finding romance isn't limited to real-life or BioWare games. These 10 VR games (including Fallout VR) all offer romantic and date-related experiences.
As soon as readily available VR gaming was announced, we all knew it was coming: virtual reality romance games. Many futuristic sci-fi films or television shows feature someone putting on a headset and trying to experience the intricacies of a relationship while in the virtual world. The future is now, VR gaming is here to stay, and romance games continue to become more popular and more varied.
Whether the main focus of a game or a prominent feature in a greater experience, romance in VR works in many mysterious ways. While many provide some genuine tips on how to woo your significant other, many of these games provide more humorous or hyperactive representations of romance. Either way, romance is a ridiculously fun concept in video games, and VR takes it to a whole new flirtatious level.
Being touted as a fully engaged workshop for working up dating confidence, Dating Lessons VR gives many classes about maintaining eye contact, complimenting a date, and knowing exactly what to say. To be quite honest, Dating Lessons VR may provide a few good tips, but as a game, it is pretty poor.
The game offers disorienting VR, shallow subject matter in many cases, and a short run time. However, between gaining a few useful tips for your dating games and having a genuine laugh at the general weirdness of the game, Dating Lessons VR is worth calling back for a second date.
Releasing in 2016, Happy Manager is a very strange VR game that puts you in the role of a property manager who starts getting hit on by three of his tenants. Although an odd setup, the game is impressive in the way that it includes nearly 28,000 lines of dialogue, and sports decent graphical fidelity for VR headsets.
Between the characterization, the funny happenings, and the endless opportunities in dialogue, Happy Manager puts you up and close and personal with the flirtatious dialogue, and it appears to be quite a hit with VR romance fans.
Alternative Girls has been a go-to romance game for VR fans, due to it being a classic Japanese dating simulator, but available on easy-to-access Android/iOS VR devices. Alternative Girls gives players the opportunity to chat with 13 different girls and try to successfully date all of them.
While admittedly quite shallow, this game allows casual VR fans the opportunity to try a dating simulator to see if it is something enjoyable. This game may have singlehandedly sold many of the VR headsets on the market today.
A way more ecstatic interpretation of romance, Gal*Gun VR is a truly bizarre concept for a VR game. You take the role of the most popular boy in school, and you run around being admired by every girl around you. In order to keep the attractions at bay, you are equipped with your patented “Pheromone Shot”: a gun that affects the emotions of anyone you shoot with it.
While not the most natural or realistic romance game in VR, Gal*Gun VR functions as a decent light gun shooter with the strange and quirky twist of a Japanese dating simulator.
The game-building toolbox of Dreams for the PlayStation 4 has garnered much acclaim for its expansive game creation tools , and its amazing community full of games that are both ridiculous and funny as they are amazing and thoughtful.
Dreams recently received a VR update that allowed games to be created and played in the PSVR headset, which opened up many opportunities for the most ridiculous dating simulators, where you can go on dates with Leisure Suit Larry, Sonic The Hedgehog, Shrek, and more beyond your wildest dreams! It’s a marvel of technology and content, and Dreams allows you to experience it all!
An absolute anomaly found on Itch, I’m Gonna Blow! The Nuke Seduction Game is a hilarious indie game where you play the role of a government official who is in charge of preventing a nuke from going off. Of course, the only way to prevent this nuclear destruction boils down to nothing more than effective seduction!
You are tasked with taking the nuke out on a date and preventing her from exploding by successfully flirting and having a nice date. A totally strange idea, but this game is a unique and hilarious time in VR.
A game that blends romance and photography, Focus On You is a VR romance game that has you taking pictures of a model that volunteers to work with you. As you both work together, the closer you get with each other and the rest is up to you.
The graphics are quite impressive at times for a VR game, and players have described the relationship between the characters in-game to be quite genuine and wholesome. The main complaint that players have is the price in regards to the length, but the experience is still worth it for the short time you have.
While only a smaller part of a gigantic experience, Skyrim’s VR mode puts players in the driver’s seat to experience all of the magic, wonder, and adventure that the land of Skyrim has to offer. Some of this adventure happens to come from the marriage system that the game implements, where players can pledge to marry certain characters that they form a bond with.
When married, players can live with their spouse, share in their wealth, decorate their living space, and even save them from vampires occasionally. All of this gripping content is available in VR, and along with wedding mods , players can experience every possible romantic scenario in Skyrim.
While much like Skyrim VR in terms of not focusing heavily on the romantic side of the spectrum, Fallout 4 VR plants players in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. What better way to pass the time than to find a suitable partner for the tough times ahead?
After following certain quest lines and becoming the romantic type for certain characters, you are granted access to options for flirtation and eventual relationship building, which can unlock new skills . The wasteland in VR first person can be a little dire, but Fallout 4 helps you to feel the love when the going gets tough.
When all else fails, there is nothing quite like hopping onto the classic VR Chat and having a genuine eye to eye conversation with somebody over the internet from across the world and have a wholesome date with no prompts or tips.
VR Chat gives you the chance to show your genuine self to someone over the internet, and no matter if you look like Knuckles The Echidna or Rick Sanchez, your unique charm and smooth words will always shine through at the end of the day. VR Chat proves that simplicity is key in the best relationships.

If you want to give VR driving a go, this is one of the best free apps out there, although it’s still in alpha and there’s very limited content.

Let’s start with all the amazing games on Oculus Store!
(Many of these are also available on the Steam Store)
If you love the idea of doing VR painting with other players, you’ll love this game! It’s the multiplayer version of Tilt Brush and is completely free.
Walk into a tavern, grab a drink and do battle against other players (or the AI) in this collectible card game! There’s deck building, leaderboard rankings, grinding for cards (if you care about getting on the leaderboards) and a private room where you can just hang out with other people.
Despite being free, the game has a good amount of depth and strategy involved, and tonnes of replay value!
Multiplayer VR escape room game that has a very unique mechanic where the game uses your guardian system to create procedurally generated worlds.
There’s no teleportation or smooth locomotion – you do the walking in real life and this makes the experience extremely immersive, and prevents motion sickness.
Bascially Counter Strike in VR – Pavlov is the most popular shooter in VR at the moment.
There’s a paid PC version called ‘Pavlov VR’ which has many more custom maps and game modes + better graphics.
Roguelite dungeon crawler with randomized dungeons offering infinite replayability! People have spent hundreds of hours in this game. It’s extremely polished and highly addictive – if you like action/fighting games, I highly recommend you give this one a try.
Physics based fighting game with epic sword battles.
Watch high quality 3D 360° animated films created using Quill (a VR illustration and animation app). I highly recommend this one for those who enjoy atmospheric storytelling experiences.
An app to connect with loved ones. Live in a home filled with endless adventures where you can add real life photos to the photo frames, watch videos together, listen to music together, play board games together or explore the world.
If you want to spend time with friends or family, this is an amazing app!!
Super popular online game of “gorilla tag” with over 1.5 million players. This is one of the best “stupid fun” games in VR that’ll have you acting like an ape.
Both a game and a film at the same time. It’s a story about schizophrenia and uses the VR medium extremely well to show what schizophrenia is like. Many schizophrenics say this is an accurate representation of what schizophrenia feels like.
It’s like going to the cinemas with your friends/family. Eat popcorn, drink coke and give each other high fives.
You can buy a ticket to watch one of the movies showing, or you can share your screen and watch movies from your computer (with excellent quality and no lag).
Hang out with other people and make friends, or visit one of the worlds to enjoy gaming/storytelling experiences! You can even learn a language from this game!
This game is okay on Quest, but if you have a VR capable PC and can get the Steam version it’s SO. MUCH. BETTER! Here’s why:
Once I played the PC version, I started sinking many hours into this game. Here are my favorite worlds:
It’s like VRChat but more focused on mini games. Warning: most the community is on the younger side.
A very fun, zero gravity VR sports game… if you can find some friends to play with. The community can be toxic at times.
A collection of memories that’s both comforting and sad. You might want to bring some napkins for this one.
A cute, fun and charming multiplayer game that’ll have you feeling like a kid on the playground. There are 5 game modes including Hide and Seek.
Since there is no voice chat, the community is very nice 🙂
Actually a pretty fun rhythm game where you get to dance and watch the super cute vtuber known as Kizuna AI. Includes 2 free songs and some paid content.
A multiplayer action game with co-op and pvp (player versus player) modes where you use guns, knives and swords. Gun Raiders is pretty challenging and has tonnes of replayability for a free VR game.
A collection of short 3D VR comics (with a bit of animation and interaction involved). It’s a short experience and I found myself wishing for more content, but if you enjoy comics/manga, this app will be a game changer for you.
A collection of hand-picked films & immersive storytelling experiences from top independent creators, studios and film festivals.
This one’s epic! It’s a 20 minute, standing theatrical VR experience that’ll blow your mind away. There are a few interactions and decisions you have to make in the story, which are pretty well woven into the story. Highly recommend this one!
Hands down the best basketball game on Oculus.
You get to pet a cute baby dinosaur named Bogo and also feed him and play games with him. It’s fun for a little while, but there isn’t too much to do in this game – but since it’s free, it’s worth checking out.
Both a game and an educational documentary. It’s one of the most immersive free games out there and there are scary moments in the game. In terms of gameplay, it’s mainly just floating around in space, but still a very impressive experience for a free game.
A short cartoon about a hedgehog with no friends.
A way to explore the world. Visit the Whitehouse or explore the dangers of Jurassic World.
Play Poker, Blackjack or slots in VR! It’s a very good experience, but you might need to spend real money to get the most out of this game.
One of the few games that utilizes hand tracking. It’s an awesome experience, but feels like a tech demo as there’s not much content. You can finish this game in 10 minutes. But still a cool showcase of what hand-tracking is capable of.
This app is intended for people who understand Japanese, but I thought it was such a cool experience that I’ll mention it here too.
Basically, you get to watch vtubers livestream on this platform, but instead of watching a 2D screen, you get to see them in VR (their avatar is 3D) and you get to interact with them. You can either watch livestreams or recordings of previous live streams.
The production value is amazing, so I hope they add an option for English soon!
Starfox, but with an Australian accent. You use a turret to shoot down enemies and bosses with destructible parts.
Now let’s check out the games on Steam Store! There are many epic experiences not available on Quest.
If you own a Quest, you can use an Oculus Link cable or Air Link to play these games (you’ll also need a VR Ready PC though).
A short, but free cinematic experience developed by the National Film Board of Canada. Despite its length, it’s one of the best storytelling experiences I’ve got to play in VR. It’s a story about the immigration of the Okita family from Japan to Canada in the 1930s which touches on issues of racism, resilience, hard work and wanting a better life for your family.
It’s a touching experience which I recommend you try.
A short VR, disney-like experience about a sailor who rescues a girl who’s fallen overboard made by academy award winning film maker John Kahrs.
A faithful recreation of SCP Containment Breach in VR. It’s a terrifying experience. Must play for SCP or horror fans.
Another horrifying VR game that’s optimized for room scale VR. There’s no “press button to move forward” – you do all the walking in real life. It’s extremely immersive and terrifying.
A VR visualization of Lovecraft’s short story: Dagon – which in my opinion is Lovecraft’s best short story.
It’s only a 30 minute game, but it’s free!
A challenging stationary shooter game where you fend off waves of zombies including a boss. There’s a multiplayer version as paid DLC.
This game was made to promote a movie, but it’s one of the best escape room experiences in VR 🙂
You’re a wizard in a tower and you can do whatever you want! Mix ingredients to make a spell, cast fireballs, use telekenesis and plenty more!
There’s also a nice story to this game.
A short, fun VR experience made by Valve with lots of Portal comedy vibes.
You get a pet robo dog that plays fetch and you can enjoy playing the collection of mini-games including a 3D bullet hell.
Pilot a flying car through a futuristic city as if you were in Blade Runner!
There isn’t much to do, but this is something you have to experience at least once! Piloting the aircar is an unbelievable experience!

I recently upgraded my computer allowing me to use my oculus for more intensive games, and I’ve been loving Blade and Sorcery, and very much appreciate that it allows me to play as a woman, since I’m one, and it’s immersion-breaking for me having to look down and see a dude.
What other games allow female playable characters in VR? Or at the very least don’t gender the player character in any way. So far besides B&S the only other ones I’ve seen are Half Life Alyx, Skyrim, and Sairento VR
Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners let's you choose
Hot Dogs Horseshoes and Hand Grenades.
You're technically an ambulatory hot dog.
Are you a hot dog in h3? I thought only the NPCs were
I played hellblade on my pc a couple years ago, is it worth replaying in VR?
Hellblade’s protagonist is a woman, but the game isn’t first person though
Elite: Dangerous, but your character isn't mobile or motion tracked.
Raw Data has a female character you unlock.
Asgards wrath has both female and male characters. Lone echo you're a robot.
The robot is depicted as male though
Many games render hands and maybe arms not full body
Yeah I know the feeling. I love Half Life Alyx but it’s a bit odd holding up my hands and hearing my character talk as a woman like it’s coming from me. Not a big deal really but I think it’s more noticed in VR since the character is basically you actually moving around.
so many VR games do not have a body. i can only think of boneworks where i actually looked down at my body, and the
