Water is clear but very shallow. Fish, crabs, turtles, weeds, rushes in there. No smell, no bugs. Monastery is very small, but has some very nice paintings, images inside. All gratis. Guy in a truck selling drinks, water, BBQ! There's a Hoxha-pillbox there as well, watching the monastery closely. Watch beach traffic on weekends. Perfect for a weekend to spend hours. There are no tickets so the entry is free. After visiting the island ou can head to zvernec beach and wait for the sunset by the beach. Beautiful must see in Vlore. The island is beautiful. Biking there is nice from town. Probably a little too far to walk to. If you are near Vlore, you have to come here. It is absolutely beautiful. Try to come at times when there would be close to no people and you will end up with breathtaking pictures. Zvernec Monastery is located on Narta Lagoon. I walked from Vlore, but about 20 minutes with a car. You will be able to see marine life in the lagoon: fish, crabs and some flamingos if you're lucky. The monastery is very well maintained, beautiful and peaceful. Make sure you visit the nearby naval bunker, fire control bunker, lighthouse, beaches- all with beautiful views. Most visitors miss these places. We drove out to the St. The water surrounding the bridge was boggy and not as pretty as we have seen in the photos on Google. It could of been the time of the year we visited. Regardless, it is still worth the trip out there. The church was beautiful and calming. People come out here to pray, so be respectful. It is incredible to see such old Byzantine icons paintings on the walls. There are a couple of vendors selling water and snacks before the bridge. Well worth the tour out to see, the boardwalk is a nice way to arrive at this amazingly historic place. I hiked out and back along the beach and roadway. Best part of the day to get there and back. It's a very pretty monastery. It has been well preserved since the renovation. The foot bridge out to it needs about two dozen boards replaced, so be careful. The island cats are very chill. The sign says no pictures, but the security guard doesn't mind if you take some. Beautiful landscape, the Monastery is well maintained historic site with long peers to walk there. But as of April there is a lot of construction around the monument. Otherwise this monument is a amazing visit to see a giant statue honoring our country's independence movement! Gigantic monument in giant open tiled square, trees, and ruins around it, big buildings, city traffic. No place to park, do your best. No place to sit either. No shade. Vlore is a lovely place to go for a visit or even to stay at an apartment for a holiday as the beach here is lovely and the sea is perfect. You can walk out for ages and you are just up to your waist in the water. So warm. Feels lovely on your skin. I would go back there.. We have got pictures from The beach is clean, but not allowed to pay in the beach. The castle is near the main road SH85 and i dicided to stop and see it while driving from himare to sarande. From the beach it may take 3 to 5 mins to reach the castle. The man who takes care of it is nice. He asked where i from and told me he was in stuttgart messe to introduce the castles to the germans. The rooms are kept original without electric lights, so it is a little dark inside. There are notes near each entrance telling what room they are. The prinson room is very interesting but it must be very bad to stay inside without windows and lights. The panorama view plattform looks like a smaller version of dubrovnic in croacia. Through the small windows of the small towers i took some pictures which look like oil paintings. In the future if there are more tourists they may try making a musuem out of it with some furnitures at the time and paintings on the wall to reproduce what it looked like before wenn it was in use. It may cost a lot though to do this and it may be a long process. Entrance only costs lek per person. It's worth visiting when you're nearby. The castle also has art inside. The fort itself is nice, and I don't mind paying for the entrance, but the amount of trash left behind from a recent event is unacceptable. The Bay has a unique microclimate and flora. Stunning views from the terraces of the castle, which served as a military post during the communist regime. This peninsula is very very close to the road so that it is very very easy to see it,stop to visit the fortess,so that you could see the fortess and have a beatifull view of the peninsula. I would recommend to visit Porto Palermo in the late afternoon to catch the sunset and avoid the scorching heat during a summer day! Small but interesting castle, with excellent views across the bay. Theyre marvelous. If youre like me and you dont like crowded or you want the beach all to yourself with not many pople or umbrellas. Then its the perfect place. My husband and I wanted to visit the castle on April 23, We climbed up the inconvenient stones on the mountain. The castle administration didn't even bother to pave a civilized path. Inside the castle, we were greeted by a gloomy man with an indifferent face. The entrance fee for one person was lek. We were ready to pay, but either by credit card or euros. The man refused to let us in, insisting that we must pay in cash and only in local currency. He sent us to the bank to exchange money and then come back to him to pay in local currency for entrance to the castle. Do you think this is a normal attitude towards potential tourists? Where else have you seen besides Albania a requirement to go to the bank and exchange money into unnecessary local currency for tourists? Everything is covered in graffiti. Bottles, napkins, plastic packaging are scattered around And all this mess is near the clean, incredibly beautiful sea. Albania is the worst. I will never come back here. Nice to see, has a lot of potential. We visited it seeing as we passed it by. Friendly gatekeeper! Keep in mind you can only pay in cash in Lek. The lack of information boards leaves a lot open for imagination. Would be nice to see some more written information on some places. The views on top of the castle are very nice! History and sea views all in one! The castle was absolutely stunning and the view from the rooftop breathtaking. The history of the place made it all more beautiful because we felt like we were reliving the life of ali pasha, his wife and all the other people who were in the castle. The doorman was really nice and gave us a few more detail on the history which made it more special. Highly recommended because even if you're someone not into history the view is worth it. First week in November, we were the only two tourists, and got a full history lesson on Ali Pasha and Albania. It was amazing. A nice , 19th century fortress. As a traveler, stopped by for a prayer and visit. Open and very clean. Close to the center and right on the main road. Would love to stop by again. Surprisingly new and functional, clean, bright mosque, clean fence, orderly shoe stacking, colorful carpets, obviously renovated with care outside. Very modern ablution area, new looking gorgeous red patterned tiles outside, white marble, with ornaments even. Nicely done. Inside is very old. Very small but interesting, consider how long it's sat here. Minaret surprisingly looks original how many earthquakes has it seen? Parking on the street wherever, not easy to find. Located right in old town, near open square and giant monument. You are bound to see this place while going to the city center. The mosque was built in the 16th century and is the oldest preserved mosque in the country. Sadly, when I visited the whole area was under construction, but that only means that in the future it will flourish. I was impressed that after the call for prayer some of the workers went in for prayer. After the gruesome Hoxha regime it seems Albania is regaining faith in God. Like almost all old Ottoman Mosques in the entire region - including Turkey - almost nothing remains inside. Same here. No ceramic no murals. The outside is original by the look of it. Muradie Mosque is a 16th century mosque that now stands as a cultural monument. It contains a prayer hall and stone minaret. The area is very clean and near Independence monument. Nothing special. Worth taking a look if you are around. I liked that it has seats outside, it's small, beautiful but it's very, very neglected, despite it's a religious place they must consider it's also considered a place tourists would like to see and it needs renovations.
