Any matte glaze can show cutlery marking over time. This is a factor of the glaze being stronger than the flatware. Any marking is only temporary and do not worry, it is not harming the glaze. To remove these marks, we recommend scrubbing with a gentle abrasive cleaner such as Bar Keeper’s friend.

Yes, our plates are designed for the rigors of restaurant kitchens and will be safe in your dishwasher & microwave. For cleaning we recommend using detergents that are gentle and environmentally friendly such as Seventh Generation.
Yes, our plates are also safe in your oven up to 400°F but they are not bakeware or intended for routine use in the oven. Always be careful to prevent subjecting them to thermal shock (going from extreme cold to extreme hot or visa versa). Thermal shock can break or damage porcelain pottery.
Our work is used daily in over 175 restaurants around the world. Fast paced restaurants put our plates through rigors that they’ll never experience in your home. You can use our plates just like you’re accustomed to and when taken care of and stored properly, our wares will last a lifetime (or a few!).
Our plates are designed to stack in your cupboard. We do not recommend stacking plates more than 12" high.
What does it mean when a product is out-of-stock or low stock? Will you make more?
Yes! All of our products are made in small batches and we're in continuous production to keep our website stocked. If the product you're interested in is out-of-stock or low stock, don't worry, we're busy making more! This is not your grandma’s china. These are modern heirlooms curated by Vivian Howard, an expert in hospitality and deliciousness, and crafted by Haand, experts in handmade, modern design.
This collaboration grew out of the mutual respect and conviviality between Haand and Vivian Howard as we worked together over the years: first to provide many of the plates and serving pieces pictured in This Will Make it Taste Good , followed soon after by a full line of ware for Lenoir in Charleston, SC.
We know you will love these pieces, and we hope the memories created around them will be full of joy for years to come.
"The collection is so versatile. The saucer with the coffee cup is not just a saucer. It's a great cocktail party plate. The share plates are perfect for salad or dessert. It's what we put in front of every guest at Lenoir because everything we serve is family style."
"A Pink glaze is hard. To make the color work, we pulled out all of the stops and the color we came up with is, in my opinion, perfect. It basically forces you to pick it up and feel it in your hands. The touchstones we talked about most were from the natural world- flowering tobacco ( Nicotiana alata) native to eastern NC. This glaze is something to behold, and best viewed in person. And even if you aren’t a “pink person”, I bet you will like this color, too. It’s not a trendy shade of pink, it’s one that you will look in style decades from now. The name, Buttermilk Pink, is all Vivian, and like any good color name, it’s almost a haiku- I imagine a fresh pail of milk catching the reflected pink of sunrise and a farmer pausing to reflect on the beautiful way a quotidian thing can become sublime and extraordinary in the right light."

These sets are drawn from Vivian’s favorite Haand pieces, all of them performance tested at Lenoir Restaurant in Charleston, SC. Blended together through simple narratives: Dinner Party, Intimate Cocktail Party, etc. these are all perfect building blocks for yourself or as gifts.
