Due to a mistake, my firebird made a sightseeing flight across the republic before it finally landed safely with me. ;-) I also ordered the matching Epiphone EpiLite Explorer Softcase. Thank you Thomann for the friendly and prompt advice! 4 screws and the central neck support offset in the case, fits! The guitar is securely secured in the case. So, now to the real thing: The offset guitar has a beautiful "sunburst" finish and a solid neck that is easy to play. The fret processing could be a bit finer, but is mostly okay. You just have to be able to lend a hand if you expect the perfect custom shop level! Due to the model (Firebird), the guitar has an enormous "left display", but it is unrestricted playability up to the 22nd fret. As a tip, if you guide the strap over the lower body horn, you have the "bird" well under control and under control (see Rickey Medlocke with his Explorer by Lynyrd Skynyrd & Blackfoot). In order to drive the pimping of the guitar to extremes, I had planned from the outset to replace the bridge and the stop tailpiece with the ABM hardware I prefer. The original hardware was okay, but the ATM update was a significant improvement in terms of sound and octave setting. The financial and technical effort has paid off completely! The saddle was filed and honed a little, because I play a bit stronger bass strings than is usual with the normal 0.10 set and there were no hacking and above all no voice problems! So as not to give the wrong impression. The guitar went down very well with me and the original hardware was already at a high level. Due to my very personal preferences, I swapped the hardware except for the Grover tuners and therefore made the additional manual effort. The Firebird Mini humbuckers are a revelation in terms of sound, very P 90s oriented, but without any hum. Nice mids and fine highs with "Punch". Dreamlike! From a purely visual point of view, a black pickguard went better with the sunburst finish, so Zack down the white and put a black on it. Only the chrome-plated pickguard screws were exchanged for black ones and my personal "Phoenix" was ready! Due to its continuous neck (like the Vintage Gibson Original) it has a very long, even sustain, but it lacks the lively attack behavior of screwed necks ala Tele or Strat or the percussiveness of a semi-acoustic or archtop. No guitar can be the egg-laying woolly milk pig! The next project in the distant future will be electronics. Other volume and tone pots, oil foil capacitors and treblebleed pure. Nerd mode off! ;-) Conclusion: The Epiphone Firebird Model 2020 is a great guitar, worth every penny as it comes original! But with a few simple steps it provides a very good basis for an excellent custom instrument! Absolutely test it!

Guitar initially ordered in February and ... covid obliges, after order cancellation and renewal, I ended up getting it at the end of August. Suffice to say that I was impatient to discover it. The "inspired by Gibson" range is not just a marketing operation. We are dealing here with what is closest to its big sister from Gibson ... made in China. In appearance, it looks like the Gibson and only the trussrod cover reminds us that it is an Epiphone. The firebird received had zero appearance defect: no paint level sag, varnish ok, clean binding ... The mcaniques are quality grover, the rest of the hardware is badged Epiphone but nothing to complain about either. Previous reviews suggest they weren't so lucky. For my part, frankly, I have nothing to complain about and a luthier friend who inspected it from all angles was also impressed by the finish and the quality of the guitar. The handle : Let us first remember the "neck trough", like the original. We are very far from the screwed sleeves of the Korean Firebird Epiphone of the 1990s (I had one in my hands: an onion skin). It's a slim type neck but I agree with a previous comment: it is really "beefy", especially from the 12th fret. However, it remains very pleasant. The fingerboard is in Pau Ferro, but a very dark shade that easily compares the bad rosewood that we find (still) on Gibson type 'Tribute, Studio, etc. The other real good surprise of this neck is the hooping: no protruding or sharp frets on the edges, no buzz despite a change in tie (9-46) and low action. The slides go by themselves, it's a real treat. As for the pickups, it slams, it's surly in bridge, and round and creamy in neck. No need to change them when I imagined I had to. The Pro Bucker are good microphones (unlike the classic alnico, which I find much more ordinary). Not to spoil anything, the guitar is rather light (3.7 kg), not too unbalanced (but a little all the same). In short: this guitar was well worth 7 months of waiting. A very, very nice surprise at this price level! Special mention to Thomann and his bundle which have me to have for 1 euro more, leather strap, 6 m jack, tuner, sets of strings (all benton / thomann)

After a long wait, the Epi Firebird has arrived and played. First the negative: The "handcrafter" from Epiphone did not make enough effort when dressing the collars. Two frets, the 7th and the 14th are too high in the middle. In addition, some of the frets are not sanded cleanly at the edge. I'll put it this way, I don't care because I revise new guitars anyway, but compared to the PRS SE in the same price range (around 600, -) that's very weak. I did: - Lowered the bridge, both sides about 1 1/2 mm - Neck curvature is ok, no reset necessary - Saddle all strings filed lower, were unevenly too high - Saddle flatter Filed and corners rounded - Fret ends sanded on both sides and rounded with sanding fleece, - Fretboard lightly polished with 1200 grit sandpaper and sanding fleece, - Fretboard oiled and polished with "Poliboy fixneu". - String riders adjusted to the bundle (but were already quite good before ...) All in all a good hour of work. The guitar is now quite playable. Now the positive: A great guitar! The finish of the guitar is perfect, it is pleasantly light and the tone is as expected (even from an original Gibson)! So I am satisfied!

Very high quality looking and beautiful player. The tongues crackled against the straps quite a bit at first, but that’s understandable because the guitar traveled to Finland for 10 days over Christmas. However, a small adjustment of the neck iron fixed the problem. The tongues were set pretty high, but the intonation was almost perfect. The straps are very good quality and the only small flaw in the whole guitar is that the white plexiglass is slightly elevated from one corner, but this doesn’t bother me.
