Vikings Boat Sex Party
Looking back at the Vikings' infamous boat party sex scandal back in 2005. /
If you're an avid sports fan, you're very well aware of some of the craziest scandals throughout football, baseball, basketball and more. But perhaps no story was more insane (and more forgotten!) than the Minnesota Vikings' infamous boat party sex scandal.
On Oct. 6, 2005, Vikings players Fred Smoot , Bryant McKinnie, Moe Williams and Daunte Culpepper were charged with indecent conduct, disorderly conduct, and lewd or lascivious conduct for throwing a sex party on two houseboats on Lake Minnetonka.
And yes, this put the New York Giants' boat party to shame.

The Vikings normally held a party for their rookies on the bye week, usually in a club. But Smoot wanted to step things up this time. The cornerback rented two houseboats and flew in over 50 strippers from across the country to attend.
What could go wrong? Well, the 17 players brought attention on themselves as soon as everyone boarded the boat, and the "party" truly began. It's important to note that not all Vikings players participated in "the festivities."
Police got wind of the party due to the various complaints from residents and the four aforementioned players. Smoot, McKinnie and Williams pled guilty to disturbing the peace charges.
People loved Fred Smoot on last week's episode, especially his love boat stories. Make sure to check out Barstool's new documentary on the Vikings Love Boat for more Smoot smack talk https://t.co/ryKGOUo7bI pic.twitter.com/HHGiyjHktP
This isn't the attention the Vikings needed at the time. They were already a 1-3 football team, and after this story broke, they instantly became the brunt of jokes across the mainstream media. Even though the team did improve after the incident, they still missed the playoffs. Head coach Mike Tice was fired after the season by team owner Zygi Wilf , and many point to this off-field incident as a reason for his dismissal.
Nearly 15 years later, the "Vikings Love Boat Scandal" still holds up as one of the most outrageous incident in professional sports.

The Minnesota Vikings were caught up in a scandal in 2005 when 17 of their players were allegedly involved in a wild sex party on board a houseboat they had rented

Players from the Minnesota Vikings NFL franchise once threw a massive sex boat party with around 100 prostitutes.
17 members of the roster were allegedly involved in the sex party on board a pair of houseboats on Lake Minnetonka in October 2005, since referred to as the Love Boat scandal. Two houseboats were rented by the players, with alleged ringleader Fred Smoot later claiming that 100 women were present at the party.
Prostitutes from Atlanta and Florida were said to have been flown in for the party, with some of the players allegedly performing sex acts in front of crew members.
An anonymous former Vikings player told Sports Illustrated, via ESPN , that the party was not the first of its kind to be held by players from the team.
"This ain't the first time Vikings players have been on Lake Minnetonka with some [women]," explained the player. "I went out there several times with a few other guys and some strippers, when all of us were single, but we would go on a boat that one of the guys owned, so everything happened in private."
Police were made aware of the party on the evening of October 6 2005 when a woman reported "seven black men" had urinated in her garden after exiting a "big shuttle bus limousine", according to the transcript of the call, via WCCO.com .

Cleaning crew reportedly found used condoms and sex toy packaging after the party. However, the attorney for the charter cruise company the boats were rented from said that no drugs and no minors were on the boats.
They also said that not every player present on the two houseboats had acted inappropriately.
After news of the party broke, Vikings owner Zygi Wilf reportedly threatened to remove those involved with planning the party from the roster, according to Sports Illustrated, via ESPN .
Meanwhile, Smoot, quarterback Duante Culpepper, Bryant McKinnie and Moe Williams were all charged with indecent conduct, disorderly conduct and lewd or lascivious conduct, per USA Today .
In the years after the scandal, NFL commentators pointed to the party as a key point in the team's history and a change in the Vikings' fortunes.
Head coach Mike Tice was fired later in 2005 and replaced by Brad Childress, who led the Vikings to the NFC Championship game in 2009 for the first time in nine years.

Neutral, Unbiased Reviews and Information about Cruises and Cruise Lines
Who can forget the Minnesota Vikings party boat scandal that rocked the NFL (and the nation) back in 2005? What was said to be a simple cruise (by the players) turned out to be a sex party involving seventeen Minnesota Vikings football players. And these were not just a handful of football players – the seventeen athletes were key players.
The players involved in the scandal included none other than: quarterback Daunte Culpepper, cornerback Fred Smoot, running back Mewelde Moore, nose tackle Pat Williams, offensive tackle Bryant McKinnie, wide receiver Nate Burleson, cornerback Ralph Brown, wide receiver Troy Williamson, wide receiver Travis Taylor, defensive tackle Kevin Williams, tight end Jermaine Wiggins, defensive end Lance Johnstone, running back Moe Williams, cornerback Ken Irvin, and defensive back Willie Offord. There were around 20 current (at the time) or former Vikings players on the boat, in the tally of 90 people between both boats.
Also referred to as the “Love Boat Scandal” or the “Smoot Boat Scandal,” the incident took place aboard two chartered boats through Al and Alma’s Boat Charter on October 6, 2005 on Lake Minnetonka in Minnesota. According to reports, several disturbing events took place in the span 40 minutes before the captains, concerned for the safety of their crews, decided to turn back.
Reports claimed that prostitutes were flown in from Atlanta and Florida to perform sex acts during the Minnesota Vikings boat party. Sex acts were performed in front of passengers, guests, crew members, and other players that were not involved in any sex acts. An anonymous former player of the Minnesota Vikings added that the 2005 incident was not the first time that something like this happened during a Minnesota Vikings party.
Other proof of the incident was photographs taken at the party that showed people engaging in sexual intercourse. At the time Stephen Doyle was a representative of Al and Alma’s Boat Charter Company and he stated that, “There were lots of people involved in sexual activity,” he said. The activity took place over both boats. it was not something that was attempted to be hidden from anybody, including this young crew.” Doyle also stated that the men on the boat, believed to be Minnesota Vikings, were described as being very large. He stated that some berated crew members when they ran out of the brand of Vodka they liked, and others became belligerent when the crew denied their requests to turn off the boats’ lights. And Doyle also stated that some of the men began asking the female crew to join in the party.
In 2006 some of the players pled guilty and either paid fines, or did community service. While others pled not guilty and later (around April 2006), charges were dropped. Since the Minnesota Vikings sex cruise, the Vikings created a 77 page Code of Conduct, the hired a private security firm, and they placed a former FBI agent and NFL investigator on the payroll as head of security in order to keep the players “out of trouble.”
