Leyna Bloom, 27, has started a Twitter campaign to be selected for the fashion runway show
A TRANS woman is campaigning to be part of one of the most exclusive catwalks in the world – the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
Since it launched 23 years ago, the brand has never featured a trans model in the show, so Leyna Bloom, 27, would make history if she was cast.
Taking to Twitter, the Chicago-based model wrote alongside two stunning snaps: “Trying to be the 1st Trans model of color walk a #VictoriaSecret Fashion show.”
In the past Leyna has called out the popular underwear brand for the lack of diversity on their runways, and has said they need to cast all genders.
It appears her social media campaign has struck a chord with online viewers as her tweet currently has over 106,000 likes.
One Twitter user gushed: “While I don't care for Victoria's Secret, you absolutely deserve to walk! Any woman deserves to walk and feel good and confident about herself.”

Another wrote: “You are sooo beautiful!! @VictoriasSecret, make it happen.”
Stunning Leyna has long wanted to be part of the brand, and said to Yahoo : “It's always been a dream for me, like so many others, not just trans—POC [people of color], all women, and some men even.
“This is a platform that glorifies femininity. I always felt in my most natural state I am heavenly. For my trans sisters, regardless of color, this will be a moment for us all.”
Leyna has worked as a professional model since 2014 and was the first out transgender person of colour to grace the pages of Vogue India last year.
She said that thankfully she has found “steady work” but some of the larger brands feel it is a “gamble” to hire a trans model of colour.
The model added: “I don't know why it's so hard for them to want to give us a shot. Then again, nothing happens overnight.”
Leyna’s campaign is not the first of its kind that has been launched for the fashion show.
In October 2015, there was a Change.org petition created to feature RuPaul's Drag Race star Carmen Carrera as its first openly transgender model.
Although 48,000 signatures were racked up on the campaign, Carmen hasn’t been selected by the brand.
The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show has been around since 1995, and popular Angels include Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio and Lily Aldridge.
In 2016, the show received 1.4 billion views from around the world when it was hosted in the fashion capital of the world, Paris.
Last year stunning model Lais Ribeiro was gifted with the honour of wearing the £1.5million Victoria's Secret fantasy bra .
