The term "anal" doesn't come from the word "analytical". It comes from "anal retentive", a term from Freudian psychoanalysis.
"Anal" means being overly concerned about small details and/or wanting things to be a very specific way. For example, Dilbert cartoonist Scott Adams cited in one of his non-fiction books a story from a reader who had an anal-retentive boss. The nitpicking about details almost drove the reader nuts, until he turned the tables on the boss by pulling minor "pranks" such as dropping a single paper clip in the boss's doorway -- knowing that the boss's personality would literally compel him to pick up the paper clip and not allow him to do anything else until the paper clip was taken care of.
If your art teacher is using the term, s/he may be trying to make a point that you shouldn't get so caught up in the small details of your work that you forget you're trying to produce a whole picture, or sculpture, or whatever the piece of artwork is that you're working on. For example (using the term in a sentence), "You're painting a picture of a forest, so don't get anal about the leaves on the trees." Hope that helps!
This particular use of the word "anal" (which generically means that it relates to the anus) comes from Freudian descriptions of personality development. According to Freud, children go through three major stages of development. Oral, anal and genital. One who is stuck in the anal phase is generally referred to as either anal expulsive or anal retentive. The expulsive type is generally slovenly and slobbish, whereas an anal retentive personality is general someone very concerned with being neat, tidy or fastidious.
In common usage, "anal" refers to the anal retnetive type and means that someone is very particular about how things are done.
