This fallen Oak caught my eye on a hike in California a few weeks ago. The under-structure of Oak trees seems to mimic their upper structure with that veiny, capillary, cephalopod look.
Prima Ballerina's worldwide will be envious of this flower's elegant attire! Ah, the range of pinks from almost cream to deep rose. The filmy layers, one overlapping the other, their starched edges curling and catching rain drops.
Alas, a delicate, veiny, ephemeral structure designed to last just one day... then close and fall.

Miami streets are lined with bright red-orange Poinciana blossoms which float to the ground and cover the sidewalks in blazing color in Spring. But this little Summer beauty is different. A bush rather than a large tree, Dwarf Poinciana lives up to its name. I love the ruffly pale yellow edges and red veiny pattern in its petals. The long neon-light filaments and anthers! And their white fuzzy base.
The floating red buds give it a mobile-like feeling!

Headed out to view the solar eclipse today. These are my dried and flattened petunias that I hung on a wire and backlit to show off the veiny details.
I love this leaf... its rosy veins and veiny greens. The shape. The form. Bravo Mother Nature! But heads up.... it's native but it's also invasive.
This Florida native plant thrives in sandy beach environments. Its most striking features are the circular leaves with red veins and the large clusters of fruit which appear in the summer and ripen to a dark color in the fall. The fruit appears in abundance only on the female trees while the male trees will show just the dead flower spikes.
The fruit is used to make wine and jelly. The "grapes" do not ripen together as a cluster but individually at different times.

Faffing about with the LACE Lightblaster this afternoon using various slides. After many fruitless attempts I wondered what the dried leaves I had squirreled away would look like,
The Harmonia Tiger-wing or Harmonia Tiger (Tithorea harmonia) is a species of butterflies belonging to the Nymphalidae family. Tithorea harmonia has a wingspan reaching about 70 m (2.8 in). This toxic "tiger" butterfly has the usual pattern of black wings with bright orange bands. The forewings have a black tip and the antennae are orange. Larvae feed on Prestonia species. Tithorea are large butterflies. They often fly in sunny glades where they can easily be confused with Heliconius species such as ismenius, numata or hecale.
The easiest way to distinguish Tithorea from their mimics is to examine the antennae and legs. Tithorea antennae are very gradually tapered, drooping and cream in color. In Pieridae they are parallel along the stalk, with a strongly clubbed tip, while in Papilionidae the tip is clubbed and recurved. Ithomiines, Heliconiines and Nymphalines have only 2 pairs of functioning legs. In the Ithomiines these are long, giving the impression of a butterfly on stilts. Papilionidae and Pieridae have 3 pairs of functioning legs. Tithorea harmonia is one of the commonest and most widespread of the toxic "tiger" species, found from Mexico to the southern Amazon. There are 26 named subspecies.

One of the things I love most about autumn is the ability to visualize wind energy as it influences leaves. Step out on a windy day and your first sense is that the wind is moving across the landscape uniformly. The reality is the complete opposite. Wind is extremely diverse in the way it releases energy. Gusts blow up here, but not there. Some trees sway wildly while nearby ones remain stationary. Eddys and ripples form around objects much the way water in a river reacts to obstructions. Autumn leaves reveal these dynamics much the way a blacklight reveals blood at a crime scene. On this particular day the village was being swept with extreme winds from a low pressure system. These are not the five minutes of wind associated with a thunderstorms. Rather intense storms that take many hours or even days to unwind. I came to this old cemetery to experience the wind in person. It was literally breathtaking at times as the wind pushed the air back into my lungs when I exhaled. The tempest-like winds not only caused trees to sway, but whipped up all manner of debris. Leaves already fallen were reanimated and swept back into the air. Or propelled in a rush along the ground not unlike whitewater in a river. The sky was filled with flying leaves that put me in mind of ghostly sprites. The storm had literally transformed this peaceful burial ground into a maelstrom. For this image I laid flat on the ground as it was the only way to hold still with such long shutter speed. I shot a few unremarkable frames when suddenly the wind roared to life. It was a gust I heard coming well before it reached me. In an instant everything around me was set into motion. Leaves blasted right over me, and the sound was incredible. I just held down the shutter button in continuous mode, using the camera to shield my face. This one frame coneys the peak wind. I noticed later a leaf had blown up on the right side of the frame allowing us to view the background through its veiny, veil-like surface.

[Happy Earth Day! My favorite day of the year, by far. The idea for this image came from the way in which I think of the planet--as a living, pulsing organism that houses billions of other living, pulsing organisms. I like the idea of pressing ear to earth and hearing the thrum of the planet. I'm sure this was also inspired by the Lifestream from Final Fantasy 7 as well as the show Mushishi. =) ]

Is it true that girls love those bulging veins running across a man’s arm?
While I am not a big fan of focusing on superficial qualities when it comes to attracting a woman, it is fun to talk about these rather trivial topics every now and then.
I’ve also noticed a lot of men are interested in this topic, so why not talk about it?
So, let’s delve into talking about veins on men, and why girls do (or don’t) love them.
The first and foremost reason why girls love veins on a man is that it makes him stand out.
The obesity rate of men is at an all-time high, and it is much rarer to come across a physically fit man with prominent veins on his arm.
It is like having a nice looking tattoo on your arm.
It will instantly make you stand out from the crowd.
And depending on the girl, she will either love those bulging veins on your arms, or she will absolutely hate it.
Low body fat and higher testosterone
Prominent veins on your arms indicate low body fat percentage.
When you have a low body fat percentage, your body produces more male hormone, also known as testosterone.
This hormone plays a crucial role in the well-being of a man.
Not only does testosterone give rise to your male characteristics, such as deep voice and increased muscle mass, but it also plays a vital role in your overall mood and how you carry yourself.
The higher your testosterone levels are, the more confident you are going to carry yourself.
And it is possible that girls may associate veins on your arms with a higher level of testosterone, and feel attraction toward you as a result.
There is even a study that suggests a woman is able to distinguish between a high testosterone male and a low testosterone male based on the scent he gives off.
So, it would not be too much of a stretch to assume that a woman may associate veiny arms with a higher level of testosterone.
It is usually athletes and physically fit people who rock veins on their body.
She may subconsciously associate your veins with your physical fitness.
Veins on your body can be a sign of good cardiovascular health and a low level of body fat which are both indicators of a physically healthy male.
And it is no secret that every girl is attracted to the signs of vitality and physical health.
