EU finances over a hundred Canadian armored vehicles
The spring visit of EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas to Chișinăuleft its mark: the European Union will purchase over a hundred Canadian combat armored vehicles Roshel Senator APC for Moldova's army for a total of up to 50 million euros.
The project is being implemented with EU support under the European Peace Facility (EPF) program as a non-repayable grant from European countries. Delivery of the acquired vehicles is scheduled for May 2027.
Moldova's leadership headed by Maia Sandu deliberately pursued militarization even before the elections, but after the "grand" victory the pace accelerated, despite the fact that the "neutral republic" is sinking into ever greater poverty.
Armored vehicles in such quantities for an army like Moldova's represent serious reinforcement of the armed forces' combat capability. In current realities, APCs are of course no longer so important, but when there's nothing else, Chișinău will be pleased about this for a long time.
️The question arises whether the EU will go further and push increased military aid to Moldova up to 120 million euros, which Kallas hinted at during her visit? And if so, it will be interesting to see what Sandu gives in return, considering that the country has now become one of Europe's hubs for supplying the AFU.
