Comprising just 6 short and fast-paced episodes, this show with one of the catchier titles in the OTT space, is one worth investing your screen time on. Sounds like the beginning of a documentary, but it is so unlike one. For, this series depicts the lives of this main cast in a way that it has you feeling with and routing for all of them right through. Moritz and Lenny, the official dorks of school, have forever been trying to make a real business out of their technical skills. Moritz figures that the only way to win his girlfriend back is to become the only drug supplier. Armed with a motive and the two brains, Moritz and Lenny move one step at a time — growing their business of selling drugs online. Apart from the main plot, the personal stories of each of the characters hold your attention. Moritz lives with his cop dad and little sister, the family having been abandoned by the mother. Lenny is a terminally ill disabled genius. Dan is the rich brat who has his own set of emotional hassles that is revealed through the season. And Lisa, the young teen who is trying to find herself, literally. It is all things current. There is social media, the technology, the dark web and more. And the technical applications and visuals almost take you on a trip, even without the pills that the boys get around to selling online. The episodes are short too, almost catering to Generation Z — quick, to the point and full of information too. Based on a true story, the real protagonist is a guy named Maximilian S who had developed a successful online drug dealing business when he was just It has been reported that while Maximilian worked alone and on the dark web, he made a few mistakes offline that eventually led to his supply chain and finally to his arrest. He was tried as a minor and got seven years in prison and has been serving since He has even been forthcoming with information on his business which has helped make this series seem quite authentic. Season 1 ends at an interesting turn of events, wherein Lisa has a change of heart and is veering towards getting back with Moritz, only to discover a huge stash of ecstasy pills in his bedroom. With a teaser of a glimpse of both Lisa and Lenny also giving interviews, you do want to check out the next season to see what happens to all of these characters. It is now more tough than ever to keep their success a secret from their own families and girlfriends. While the boys are tempted to give it all up in return for peace, there are many things holding them back. Apart from the success, the money and the respect that it garners, the boys know too much about their stakeholders to be allowed to just leave and be free. And while you think they will play a bigger role in telling the story here, it is Moritz who continues to be the story teller. The presentation style continues to be fast paced, and you find yourself making an effort to keep up with the details, especially those that carry the story forward in the form of text messages shared among the characters as they are seen typing away on the screen. What one can also look out for is a good dose of humour — both in the form of dialogues as well as situations. While this is an adaptation of a true story, the makers have taken the liberty to fictionalise it even as they stick to the flow of the story and that makes the story an even more enjoyable watch. Also discover the ego hassles, the deceptions, the ambitions, and of course — love and relationships, all from the perspective of some very smart and relatable teenagers. Season 2 ends with a glimpse of Moritz calling it a day as far as his interview is concerned — to be shackled in handcuffs as he is escorted away. Users' Reviews. On the A Side 'Overcome' is stripped back and energetic, driven by rolling and shuffling garage style beats, tight bubbling bass and atmospheric synth pads. The intermittent vocal samples and the release's signature organ set you up for the flip, 'Lady Science NYC Sunrise '. Possibly one of house music's most emotive pieces, the track builds slowly with the introduction of each part building a story of soulful optimism based around a sparse palette of deep synths, uplifting keys and warm analogue bass. The understated beauty of the main vocal riff never seems to grow old or tired with the track lending itself perfectly to either main room, peak-time play or after-hours sessions alike. Review: Berlin-based Korean Peggy Gou has been surprisingly quiet since first bursting onto the scene back in Here, she returns to action having graduated from Technicolour to parent label Ninja Tune. Many may already have heard EP standout 'It Makes You Forget Itgehane ', a percussively ambidextrous beast based around a bouncy, off-skilter, snare-heavy rhythm track. It has been much discussed online after Gou included it her recent Resident Advisor podcast. On the B-side you'll find tracks representative of her developing style, which draws together elements of European deep house, electro, early '90s U. S house, the rubbery disco eccentricity of Maurice Fulton and the instinctive polyrhythms more often found in traditional African music. Bass Affairs 12'. Sound Stream Germany. Rel: 20 May 21 Add to playlist. Review: Well, here's something to raise the spirits: a first new 12' from Frank Timm's Sound Stream alias for three years. Those familiar with the German producer's work will know exactly what to expect, namely delicious disco house cut-ups that turn selected loops from largely forgotten gems into insatiable dancefloor gold. A-side 'Bass Affairs' is particularly good, delivering a perfect blend of sun-kissed Brazilian guitars, rubbery slap bass loops and lilting Rhodes chords all accompanied, of course, by thunderous kick drums. There's a more traditional disco-house feel about the filter-heavy 'Sweep Magic', while 'Starstrike' is a throbbing, stripped back affair that makes great use of looped-up bass guitars. Want You In My Soul 12'. South Street. Rel: 12 Feb 20 Add to playlist. Review: Stee Downes is one of contemporary house music's most prominent vocalists and here he lends his silky tones to Freerange, Defected and OM Records associate, Lovebirds for this new one on South Street. Downes' vocals are the loved up icing on the romantic groove cake. Flip over for the 'Summer In London Edit' - a more stripped back and direct version, perfect for outdoor stages as the sun beats down. Tags: Disco House Nu Disco. Tourist remastered gatefold 2xLP. Taken from her second album Mahogany Soul, the Swizz Beats produced track made optimum usage of an O' Jays sample and was instrumental in that LP going gold and propelling the former D'Angelo collaborator to stardom. It also inspired countless official and under the counter remixes with Blaze's perhaps the most recognisable. So yes this reissue on 7' from Outta Sight is worthy if you don't have the original in your collection and features a housed up remix from Hex Hector on the flip. Tags: Disco House Soul Disco. The Motor City mainstay has been turning out lovely lo-fi, roughshod house grovers packed with emotional heat for decades and never seems to lose any momentum. The A-side mix of 'Day' features his textbook roughshod drum loops and heart-aching vocal samples that loop infinitely and keep you locked in the moment. The B-side version is more rickety and twitchy for the after-hours. Tags: Detroit House Detroit Techno. F Communications France. Rel: 01 Nov 90 Add to playlist. Review: There's a feeling with Sound Stream records akin to supping on a cup of tea after a long hard winter day, so perfectly pitched and satisfying is his approach to making house music. On 'Julie's Theme', there's some unabashed delay rippling going on, but still that ever-loving disco groove sits underneath in the bassline on the one and the natural hand claps. On the flip, the disco is thoroughly loud and proud, with 'Inferno' resplendent in searing Philly strings and slinky bass that was built for grooving. Once again, Sound Stream has delivered a simple but meaningful demonstration of house music perfection. Rel: 01 Sep 17 Add to playlist. Review: Of all DJ duos currently operating in British dance music, Belfast boys Bicep might be the hardest to pin down Optimo aside, of course. Certainly, this debut album is not easy to pigeonhole, though it is an enjoyably cohesive listen. This is largely down to two factors; the frequent use of deliciously colorful and loved-up synthesizer parts, and the duo's innate ability to utilize beats tailor-made for dancefloor devastation. So while keen dancefloor historians may notice sly and not so subtle nods to '89 rave, U. S house and garage, Italo-disco, late '90s progressive house, jungle and early British hardcore, the album never sounds anything less than a fine set of Bicep tracks. Expect it to be one of the biggest albums of the year. Nightgruv 12'. Rush Hour Holland. Rel: 25 Jan 12 Add to playlist. Review: Rush Hour did us plenty of favours this year but by far our most cherished was the reissue of James Mason's timeless, proto-house excursions on the infamous 'Nightgruv' EP. There's really not much to be said about these peerless productions, the original mix is a stunning voyage through glimmering synths backed by a chugging beat groove, but the unreleased longer edit is the one - voyaging through those gorgeous drums and piano keys like there's no tomorrow! It's clear he feels this way too; using the album to delve deeper into electronic deconstructions and delicate ensemble arrangements. At its most adventurous and contemporary classical 'Argente' is up there with Frahm, at is dreamiest and jazz-influenced 'For Marmish' is a deeply cosmic affair with disparate chords making more sense than they perhaps should. At its most traditional Floating Points we hit the finale 'Perotation Six' where the brushed drums are buried under layers of sound and elements in a way that's not dissimilar to Radiohead. Well worth the wait. Tags: Leftfield House. Moxy Edits hand-stamped 1-sided 12'. Rel: 15 Aug 20 Add to playlist. Review: Another week, another new re-edit series of mysterious origin. There's literally no info about the producer or producers behind this particular single-sided salvo, or the source material they've tampered with. Regardless, we'd heartily recommend giving it a listen. Firmly focused on peak-time floors, it wraps cut-up and manipulated female rap vocals over a formidably bouncy, turn-of-thes house beat and a rubbery synthesizer bassline so infectious you might need to self-isolate for two weeks after hearing it. It is, somewhat remarkably, the legendary Detroiter's first commercially available mix set. This triple-vinyl edition features a whopping 19 cuts - all in unmixed form - from the 30 track mix. Wisely, she's chosen to kickstart said imprint - the freshly minted Gudu Records - with her first EP of fresh material for over 12 months. There's a similarly retro-futurist feel to the equally loved-up 'Han Pan', where Gou's attractive vocals once again catch the ear alongside heavy analogue bass, chiming synth lines and Kwaito influenced drums. Footwork 12'. Sound Signature US. Cat: SS Rel: 12 Feb 24 Add to playlist. Review: Theo Parrish lays down a marker for a long overdue fifth album, apparently due out later this year, with the sublime Footwork 12'. Named in reference to the dance as opposed to the breakneck offshoot of Ghetto House, 'Footwork' is a sublime slab of Theo with many of his trademark production touches. Think lightly brushed percussion, meandering bassline that juts out with an odd funk, and subtle yet sumptuous musical touches, all topped off by a gruff 'let me see your footwork baby' croon. Those Theo fans out there that like the man to get a bit rugged will be all over 'Tympanic Warfare' too, where off the grid polyrhythms cannon around the channels, augmented by an ugly bassline and dexterous keys. Review: This is a cheeky single-sided affair that contains a gently tooled-up, rolling and rearranged version of a Marlena Shaw-sampling jazz-house classic that is rightly considered something of a dancefloor classic. The edit itself is undoubtedly rather good, subtly adding a little more bottom-end grunt whilst making a little more of the original's snaking sax parts, much-loved vocal sample and groovy jazz percussion. You can decide or not whether the re-edit was needed; certainly, the mystery re-editor has done a rather tidy job on the rework. Tags: Jazzy House. Good For You. Rel: 13 Sep 19 Add to playlist. It's a wonderfully positive and life-affirming affair, with the three legendary producers wrapping echoing guitars, warming disco orchestration and Rawls' sublime lead vocal around a deliciously percussive Afro-house groove. Here, they focus a little more on the latter with a concept album based around the distinctive Afrobeat rhythms of legendary drummer Tony Allen. With his blessing, and that of the Comet label on which he's been releasing since the s, the Early Sounds Recordings pair has cut-up and re-constructed Allen's drums, combining them with their own steamy electronics, vintage synthesizer lines and classic drum machines. On the flip, Omar S provides his own remix, drowning the synths in dubby textures and showering them with shuffling hats for a more heads-down take. Review: Absolute beast of a track from Omar S here - a real statement of intent for the FXHE boss and a shoe in for those end of year lists we all like to indulge in. Beneath this constantly ascending processing of gleeful melodic touches is simplistic yet delicious sounding crisp machine rhythms, subtle arpeggios and infectiously warm bass nudges. Here, Alex Kassian serves up his own extension version of it and takes us on a minute electronic trip that will be perfect for the more adventurous DJs and dancers out there - not least in Ibiza this summer. Next to the escapist original is a flipside remix from the one and Mad Professor. New Energy gatefold 2xLP. Rel: 07 Jun 21 Add to playlist. Review: If you were judging Kieran Hebden's 11th Four Tet studio album merely on the way it's presented, you'd immediately think he'd spent the last two years immersed in early '90s ambient house albums. While it's unlikely he's done that, it's fair to say that New Energy does owe a debt to classic electronica sets from that period. For all the exotic instrumentation and subtle nods to post-dubstep 'aquacrunk' experimentalism and chiming, head-in-the-clouds sunrise house, the album feels like a relic of a lost era. That's not meant as a criticism - New Energy is superb - but it is true that his choice of neo-classical strings, gentle new age melodies, sweeping synthesizer chords and disconnected vocal samples would not sound out of place on a Global Communication album. Romancing The Stone double 12'. Rel: 07 Apr 14 Add to playlist. It does however contain four more fine examples of the fact no one does it quite like Omar S. Lead track 'Leave' sets the tone, as ripples of percussion emerge from a pool of simmering sonic emotion and embarks on a masterclass in slow build dancefloor revelation at breakneck pace. On the second 12', 'Frogs' dovetails from a simple disco guitar loop into fucked up abstract acid techno territory with little prior warning whilst 'Surpass' finds AOS ending with some anthemic maximal piano house. Cat: PR P. Rel: 16 Sep 20 Add to playlist. Review: Alison Limerick's 'Where Love Lives' is the sound of a generation, a reminder of one of the most vital cultural movements of the last years. It is a perma-hit that unites all ages, colours and creeds, even now, 30 years after it first got hands in the air and tears in the eyes on dance floors of cult clubs around the world. To mark the occasion it gets a special remaster treatment and 12' release for Record Store Day. The Classic Mix - which is still the best - kicks off, followed by a big piano version from Mo Knuckles and a darker, more stripped back Cut To The Bone mix. Sixteen Oceans gatefold 2xLP in spot-varnished sleeve. Rel: 06 Apr 20 Add to playlist. Review: Four Tet is back with a new album of shimmering wonderment on his own Text label. As ever, it's the way that Kieran Hebden tugs at the heart strings so artfully that makes him so well-loved, and he's not holding back one iota as 'Sixteen Oceans' opens up with the ineffably pretty 'School'. There's some advanced garage ruminations on 'Baby', classic ambience on 'Harpsichord', and so the eclectic and extremely soul-cleansing vibes continue across three sides of wax. In addition to this wonderful new album, Hebden has also held back the fourth side for a bunch of locked grooves so satisfying you could get lost in them all day. Tonite 12'. Rel: 10 Feb 12 Add to playlist. Review: Such is the prolific nature of FXHE at the moment, which ever pressing plant Omar S uses must be pretty happy with their contract. Named so thanks to his work at the helm of Fit Distribution, Siegel is a key figure in ensuring the ongoing healthy output of Detroit's house and techno militia and 'Tonite' proves to be an auspicious debut. Featuring the vocal talents of L'Renne, the track is one of those eminently soulful house tracks with a sparse approach to production, all the elements sounding so crisp and distinct in the mix but judged perfectly. Review: SEX remixes makes for another triumphant 12' from the uber prolific FXHE stable and further smears the edges of expectation when it comes to the singular Omar S. Once again utilising the silky vocal delivery of singer L Renee, the four tracks here take divergent stylistic routes but each is magnificent. Keen listeners of Benji B's Radio 1 show will have heard the Conant Garden Posse version on a recent Big Strick guest mix, a devilishly dirty riposte to the Ghetto House aesthetic which has L Renee's vocals gliding over a snapping, raw house beat. Alongside this are two variants done in collaboration between Omar S and Aaron Fit Siegel which sound like they've been particularly inspired by soundtrack to Drive. St Germain 2xLP. Rel: 05 Oct 15 Add to playlist. Review: Ludovic Navarre aka St Germain requires no introduction, and the French house legend has literally seen and done it all ever since his first productions began to surface and influence other house artists back in the early 's golden era. The majority of his music has been released on F Communications, but his latest studio album drops on EMI's Parlophone sublabel. The self-titled St Germain is a proper LP, not a mere collection of house tracks put together helter-skelter. Inside, you'll hear many of Navarre's influences and inspirations, from Afro tribal melodies, to jazzy influences and even Middle-Eastern chimes. It's a house album in structure, but much more than that beneath the surface Hit It Bubba 12'. Rel: 03 Jan 17 Add to playlist. Review: The Detroit badman always delivers the goods, but he'd recently focussed on his more house-centric style thanks to a series of sleek, soulful releases. This time, he's come out all guns blazing with this new four-part killer, led by the absolutely nutty groove that is 'Sink Holes' - a proper slice of Omar S acid, delivered in fine style and with his inimitable rawness. This is one hell of a way to make an appearance this early in the year - highly recommended!! DET EP 12'. Upstairs Asylum US. Cat: UAR Rel: 25 Feb 21 Add to playlist. Rel: 19 Oct 10 Add to playlist. Review: Omar S treats us to a second release in the space of a week, with a much deserved reissue of some Roy Davis Jnr rawness across the A Side. The Stevie Wonder classic 'All I Do' gets chopped up, laid over a killer Chi town beat filled with instantly gratifying raw drum edits and augmented by some evil bass thumps. Relentlessly brilliant and sounds just as fresh some 14 years on. Echoing a current trend this side plays outwards from the inside groove. On the flip Omar S teams up with DJ B Len D for the bongo heavy deep groove of 'Da Teys' a track that's characterised by melodic keys which increase with curveball drama as the track progresses. Manuel KEYZ. Color Therapy EP heavyweight vinyl 12'. Cat: VP The strings and keys come in seductive, nocturnal arrangements, while the snippets of vocal come from true soul divas, all atop of bumping garage house funk. The tune that stands out to our ears is 'Orange Love', replete with sexy saxophone fit for Lil Louis and dreamy key flourishes that give a considered and wistful tone to the track, but really there's plenty to work with on all four corners of this EP. Oh Jabba 12'. Rel: 11 Dec 12 Add to playlist. Last seen collaborating with Omar S on the dedication to Eddie Murphy's finest acting role, the impression that Ignitt likes his cinema is only strengthened here on the Star Wars referencing lead track with some deliciously lo fi art work of that slug like character on the inner label dispelling any possible doubt. The track itself is a wonderfully simple yet melodic house track, crunchy drum machine rhythms rippling away feverishly beneath a calming array of swooping Rhodes and Moog flourishes. Complementing this, 'Space Age Stepping' is a more searching affair, relying more on the rugged drums and gurgling analogue bassline to achieve lift off. Another Day 12'. Mother Tongue Italy. Gerald Mitchell aka Los Hermanos's 'Another Day' is just that, a sweet coming together of acoustic string work, a perfect soul sample that is dusty and aching, and claps and kicks that roll for days. From the gospel tones of the opener we head to the electric techno-jazz of 'Binary Funk Infusion' featuring Bob Rogue its finally on to 'The Billy Love Experience Let Love Live ', a jazzy house workout with Sun-Ra synths and noodling Rhdoes that are utterly life affirming. Review: The second part of Omar S' You For Letting Me Be Myself album in vinyl form sees another 8 tracks across four sides of wax; aside from the '80s inflected sounds of the album's title track, the workout of 'Ready My Black Asz' finds itself with the dubbed out loops of 'Messier Sixty Eight'. As a bonus for those who already have the album, this part contains two vinyl exclusive tracks; the soothing deepness of 'She's Sah Hero Nik' and the delayed organ weirdness of 'Broken Bamalance Horn' - both more than worth the price of admission alone. Review: The inexorable rise of Purple Disco Machine continues, as his wholehearted tribute to machine disco originators Hot Streak, Patrick Cowley and Giorgio Moroder - the throbbing, anthem-like 'Body Funk' - is given a deserved single release. The producer's own 'Extended Mix' is quickly followed on side A by a punchy Claptone remix that places the original's sampled vocals over a suitably massive backing track high on piano stabs and big room house grooves. There's a jazz-flecked beauty to the crackly downtempo grooves offered up by the title track, while the dreamy, guitar-laced head-nodder 'Sylvia' recalls the best of his Balearic-influenced work. The final repress from Sound Signature HQ is an essential slab of late 90s Motor City deepness from Theo, presented once again for contemporary reassessment and sounding every bit as jaw dropping 14 years on. Dropping back in , title cut 'Overyohead' came to be regarded as a quintessential Theo Parrish track; strings incandescent with soul and lovingly off centre Rhodes riding those heavy drum arrangements towards a sweet piano infused crescendo. Chiefly, that is a love of 90's dance anthems, which was rekindled in her during downtime during the pandemic. Released via her own Gudu Records, 'I Go' is a catchy, singable bit of throwback dance-pop with her own vocals front and centre. The old school beats and bass will get any party pumped, with the synth work looks to the cosmos and explores a very different vibe to her previous single. Review: Few vocal deep house records are quite as timeless as Cece Rogers' 'Someday', a Marshall Jefferson produced anthem that has continued to be constantly played by discerning DJs ever since its original release. As most will tell you, it was also the major sample source for Liquid's rave anthem 'Sweet Harmony'. This South Street reissue replicates the track listing of that initial Atlantic release, albeit it in re-mastered form to sound a little meatier on modern club soundsystems. On the A-side you'll find the essential Club Mix, where Rogers' impeccable vocal and Jefferson's meandering piano solos naturally dominate. These piano solos take more prominence on the 'Some Dub' version, which in true '87 style still includes key vocal passages drenched in dub delay, while the Accainstrumental is - ironically - a little more like a contemporary house Dub. We're not sure who DSO is or are - internet searches come up blank - but the two tracks on this 12' genuinely hit the spot. A-side 'Love You More' puts a new spin on the Sade classic of the same name, adding the '80s soul star's vocals to a hypnotic deep house groove, dreamy chords and occasional flecks of wine bar saxophone. Over on the flip the shadowy remixer s offer-up a radically different new take on Erykah Badu's hip-hop soul gem 'Apple Tree', reimagining it as a rolling chunk of deep house warmth. To be fair, he is rather good at producing high-grade deep house, and here unveils another eleven gems. Highlights are plentiful, from the dusty afro and blues influences of the tribal 'Chama Piru's', and hazy, Rhodes-heavy vocal cut 'AhRevolution', to the hip-wigglin' disco-house influences of 'Seen Was Set', and retro-futurist, Inner City style Divinity hook-up 'On Your Way'. There's something icily brilliant about the restrained 'Income Tax Refund Dance' melding a dark piano riff with snapping kicks and rippling lo fi rhythms which only further justifies the title of Omar S's killer LP. It's complemented by the far rowdier box jam 'The White Castle Song' which jackhammers a simple yet highly flammable key riff over low rent percussion for FXHE's most potent ode to the perfect warehouse moment since the all conquering 'Here's Your Trance Desert Eagle 12'. The title track is as bold and brassy as you'd expect from the Detroit producer, with swirling, minor key melodies and woozy chords complimenting swinging machine drums and a deliciously bouncy, suitably tactile synth-bass line. Arriving roughly a year on from the last slab of Ignitt goodness, Mysterious finds OB on imperious form, once more showing off his penchant for excellent track titles and singular slant on bumping Detroit business. The title track is a veritable epic of unquantifiable emotive stakes, emerging from a heat treated fog and easing into a subtle yet beguiling rhythmic framework which coaxes you into a spell that grows stronger as the track charges electrically forth. Face down, 'Celestial Salacious' has that same rough edged bass line growl to it, but the skipping percussion and building layers of instrumentation give the track real energy, whilst you can almost feel the funk dripping off final track 'Chocolate City' which sounds like DJ Nature hocked up on MDMA. While he's officially broken the spell with The Division EP - his first outing on Running Back - for the most part it's still a heart-warming, retro-futurist treat. He kicks things off with the cheery, Italo-disco revivalism of 'Neutron Dance', where throbbing synthesizer arpeggio lines and mids melodies are underpinned by a bustling mid-tempo house groove, before slowing things down via the Balearic synth-pop shuffle of 'Division Ave'.
