Vanessa Hudgens ' life changed when a nude photo of her leaked online in September 2007 after she was hacked.
The former Disney star was just 18 years old at the time and now, at 31, she's reflecting on the "really f--ked up" ordeal she went through and why she originally took the blame for it.
"It was a really traumatizing thing for me. It's really f--ked up that people feel like they are entitled enough to share something that personal with the world," she told Cosmopolitan UK . "As an actor, you completely lose all grip of your own privacy and it's really sad."
"It feels like that shouldn't be the case, but unfortunately, if enough people are interested, they're going to do everything they can to get to know as much about you as they can, which is flattering, I guess, but then people take it too far and end up divulging things that should be personal," Hudgens added.
"I think that is because there's a disconnect when you see your favorite actress on the screen, and you see them now on your TV in your homes, and you can watch them whenever you want. There's almost — I don't want to say lack of respect because that sounds negative — but it just makes you feel like you know them even though you don't."
Hudgens has more clarity on the incident now and originally apologized for taking the photos. "I want to apologize to my fans, whose support and trust mean the world to me," she told E! News in a statement at the time. "I am embarrassed over this situation and regret having ever taken these photos. I am thankful for the support of my family and friends."
Now, Hudgens believes firmly in standing her ground and advocating for herself. "I have been talked to in ways that are not appropriate. I have been in situations where I've been talked to in inappropriate ways, but right then, in that moment, I was the person to just say, 'No. Why would you say that? You're completely out of line,'" she said.
"I'm the type of person in any situation, whether it's an audition or in work, if I feel uncomfortable, I'm going to walk away or let that person know they're making me feel uncomfortable," Hudgens explained. "Then, if they don't respect that, they can go f off. If someone doesn't like that, literally they can f--k off. As long as you hold your ground, no one will bring you down."
"I've always been a big advocate of being true to yourself. Not everyone is going to like that — well, good," Hudgens said. "That makes you an individual. That makes you unique. And if we're all the same, what's the point? It's important to look out for each other, especially in this industry, and realize it's tough. It's hard enough. Nobody needs to make it harder."

Vanessa Hudgens’ scandal pictures caused a lot of controversy when they leaked about three years ago. The High School Musical star was trying to send some sexy photos to her former co-star and long-term boyfriend, Zac Efron , but her pictures fell into the wrong hands and were made public. It had to have been immensely embarrassing. She became the poster child for anti-sexting campaigns, and many wondered if Disney would be upset enough to publicly reprimand or fire Vanessa because her formerly squeaky-clean image had been tarnished.
Vanessa’s picture messaging blunder brought the issue of teens sending illicit picture messages to other teens to light, causing them to warn their kids about the dangers of having their pictures leaked to their whole school, or even been tried in court for circulating child pornography, if the young people were underage.

Disney star Vanessa Hudgens has become embroiled in yet another nude photo scandal.
Photos published online show a girl, said to be Hudgens, fully naked and posed provocatively, reports the Daily Mail.
Although the new images only emerged last night they are alleged to be from the same set which emerged online in 2007.
The pictures also appear to show a girl said to be Zoey 101 star Alexa Nikolas, who is seen kissing Hudgens.
Two years ago Hudgens sued the owner of a website which published the first set of shots, saying they were obtained by “unknown methods” and posted without her “knowledge or consent”.
There has been some suggestion that the timing was designed to damage the success of her movie.

Vanessa Hudgens is an American actress and singer who rose to fame as a teenager with her starring role in the films “High School Musical”.
She had an early love of the show which led her to appear in local music productions at the age of eight. Her big break came in 2006 when she landed the lead role in Disney’s popular high school music film franchise. The actress has followed darker roles in films such as Sucker Punch, Spring Breakers and The Frozen Ground. Hudgens has also released two albums, was a judge on So You Think You Can Dance, and appeared in live television productions for Grease and Rent.
On paper, Hudgens’ role in 2009’s Slamband doesn’t seem like a big leap from the high school musical – she’s the new girl who comes to town and decides to put together a rock band to compete with other bands. However, Hudgens told The New York Times that she was drawn to the screenplay’s description of her character as “immortal”, “introverted” and “a little out of the way.” Sucker Punch (2011) was more of a departure from her Disney image of her when she played a young woman in a psychiatric hospital who fantasizes she’s a brothel.

Vanessa started dating Zac Efron in 2005. The relationship lasted five years. She then started dating Austin Butler in 2011.
In 2007, Brian Schall sued her for alleged “breach of contract”. He claimed that Vanessa owed him $ 150,000. She replied that she could not sign the contract because she was a minor at the time (October 2005) when the contract was to be signed.
On September 6, 2007, several photos of Vanessa were posted on the Internet. She then engulfed a lot of controversy as she was naked in some of her photos. A similar incident occurred again in August 2009.
