He regularly covers red carpet events and has interviewed stars like Drew Barrymore, Ryan Reynolds and Kirsten Dunst. He previously worked as a copy editor at Topix Media Lab.

Vanessa Hudgens is reflecting on an early career scandal with an empowered lens.

Opening up to Cosmopolitan U.K. for a February cover story, the actress, 31, addressed the 2007 invasion of privacy she experienced as an 18-year-old, which resulted in revealing photos of herself posted to the internet.

At the time, the young Disney Channel star apologized for the leak instead of defending herself as the victim in the situation.

“It was a really traumatizing thing for me,” Hudgens told the magazine. “It’s really f—ed up that people feel like they are entitled enough to share something that personal with the world.”

The Bad Boys for Life star said living in the spotlight, she believes, can cause people to think celebrities are endless fodder for preying perpetrators.

“As an actor, you completely lose all grip of your own privacy and it’s really sad,” she said. “It feels like that shouldn’t be the case, but unfortunately if enough people are interested, they’re going to do everything they can to get to know as much about you as they can.”

She continued: “Which is flattering, I guess, but then people take it too far and end up divulging things that should be personal.”

Hudgens — thrust into stardom for her High School Musical work alongside her boyfriend at the time, Zac Efron — was among the first female celebrities plagued by hacks and nude photo leaks.

In the years since, other A-listers have dealt with the modern digital dilemma, including Jennifer Lawrence , whose hacker received prison time .

Responding to the controversy at the time, Hudgens issued an apologetic statement through her rep: “I want to apologize to my fans, whose support and trust means the world to me. I am embarrassed over this situation and regret having ever taken these photos. I am thankful for the support of my family and friends.”

A Disney Channel spokesperson, at the time, released the following statement : “Vanessa has apologized for what was obviously a lapse in judgment. We hope she’s learned a valuable lesson.”

Looking back, Hudgens told Cosmo U.K. that she has since learned to stand up for herself in all sorts of uncomfortable scenarios.

“I’m the type of person in any situation, whether it’s an audition or in work, if I feel uncomfortable, I’m going to walk away or let that person know they’re making me feel uncomfortable,” she said. “Then, if they don’t respect that, they can go f— off.”

She added: “As long as you hold your ground, no one will bring you down.”

Hudgens describes herself as a “big advocate of being true to yourself,” regardless of whether others like it or not.

“Not everyone is going to like that — well, good, that makes you an individual; that makes you unique,” she said. “And if we’re all the same, what’s the point? It’s important to look out for each other, especially in this industry, and realize it’s tough.”

“It’s hard enough, nobody needs to make it harder,” she added.

Vanessa Hudgens’ scandal pictures caused a lot of controversy when they leaked about three years ago. The High School Musical star was trying to send some sexy photos to her former co-star and long-term boyfriend, Zac Efron , but her pictures fell into the wrong hands and were made public. It had to have been immensely embarrassing. She became the poster child for anti-sexting campaigns, and many wondered if Disney would be upset enough to publicly reprimand or fire Vanessa because her formerly squeaky-clean image had been tarnished.
Vanessa’s picture messaging blunder brought the issue of teens sending illicit picture messages to other teens to light, causing them to warn their kids about the dangers of having their pictures leaked to their whole school, or even been tried in court for circulating child pornography, if the young people were underage.
And here are the photos that made all of that happen…

Sometimes being a celebrity is not an easy job. Everyone is constantly watching you where you go, they don’t care about your personal space or feelings. Whenever you go out, there are a bunch of paparazzi’s waiting to click pictures of you and anyone you are with. Sometimes it feels great other times it is just borderline creepy. There are many fans and other people who are obsessed with such new pictures of celebrities, and they go on the internet to find such pictures.
What if a celebrity’s pictures get leaked? I’m not talking about those cute little pictures that they hide in their phones, but the ones that are not meant for the general public to see. Yes, those private photos. Unfortunately, sometimes celebrities become the target of hackers who get into their personal digital spaces and bring out the personal stuff for everyone to see. One such celebrity to become the target of such hackers is Vanessa Hudgens.
So let me just come out and say it. Okay, so Hackers leaked those Vanessa Hudgens photos. You might be already aware of this since the news is all over the internet. This is such a nasty thing to do, especially with women. This was done by a group of hackers who got into her Gmail account somehow and got their hands on her nude photos.
This “High School Musical” star isn’t the only one though, there are reports of 50 other whose accounts have also been hacked. There could even be more accounts that were hacked. The people who did this have stolen many of their personal photos and videos. Just a few ago, the same thing had happened with Kirsten Dunst, Kate Upton, and Jennifer Lawerence. Their photos were then put on Twitter, Reddit, and 4chan.
In this new attack against celebrities by the hacker ring, many others have also become victims. Scarlett Johannsson, Miley Cyrus, Busy Philipps, and Ali Larter are few of them. Another disturbing thing is that this isn’t the first time Vannesa’s account has been hacked. It first happened in 2007, and the same photos that were lost in those hacks have now been resurfaced.
This shows that the hackers don’t care about money that they want to feed off the misery and distress of others. Vannessa says that she is devastated to see those old photos come back to haunt her. So she is working with the FBI to find those people responsible for this and bring them to justice. This should never happen to anyone, a celebrity or not, and not especially to a woman.
TMZ had interviewed Vannesa on the same, and she had stated the about stuff. She is upset but at the same time, there is nothing she can do about it. She is a bit worried as to how the people would react to these images. It can even damage her image and public opinion which in the age of social media can have unseen consequences.
Another interesting thing is that the hackers are pawning these photos. They did it right when a new movie(Sucker Punch) of hers is about to release. This could even have bad publicity for the movie or pull in great demand for the photos. Either way, this is gonna the actress mentally and professionally.
She is worried that now people may ask to do a nude scene, and when she denies it, they are gonna be like, “don’t bull**** me, you already did that”. This is something she talked about with TMZ last year. The hacker’s ring seems to keep stocking on these celebrity photos and wants to release them slowly to various sites. As I have mentioned earlier that Scarlett Johannson is another victim of this crime, where her nude photos have been stolen from her iPhone.
In case any of you do not know who Vannesa Hudgens is, you might have seen her in High School Musical movies as Gabriella Montez. While her debut movie was Thirteen that was released in 2003, it wasn’t until she was in High School Musical that she became famous. Apart from that, you might have seen her in movies like Thunderbirds and Bandslam. She has also featured in many music videos.
Now, her new movie Beastly has already been on March 4, and another movie from Zack Snyder titled Sucker Punch is gearing up for release. From the looks of it, Vanessa might have a good year ahead. This High School Musical star has a bright future ahead of her, even with this photos scandal.
High School Musical is a TV movie that was released in 2006 as the Disney Channel original movie. The movie starred Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel, Monique Coleman in prominent roles. This wasn’t a critically hit movie though it is something that you cannot expect from a Disney movie. Regardless, it was a hit on TV for the audience, whose viewership includes teens.
It also made Zac Efron a teen heartthrob and put him on the Hollywood radar. While it did bring fame to Vanessa too, Zac got the most of it. Coming back to the movie, since it is made by Disney you can expect it to be a PG-13 family movie with good amounts of laugh and drama. This is something you can find in every Disney movie since they are targeted at a family-friendly audience.
The story follows Zac Efron as Troy Bolton and Vanessa as Gabriella Montez as both are selected for a high musical. It is then they develop a close friendship, which is something that has never happened in the school’s social order. From this, you can pretty much guess that Zac is the popular kid who is on the top of the social hierarchy in their school. Whereas Vanessa plays an introverted and smart girl who is far away from such social norms.
There are also two other sequels to the series which end High School Musical: Senior Year. I know that this might seem like a high school drama, which it is. This is still a good watch for a fun family movie night.
