The vagina of the rectus abdominis (vagina m.recti abdominis), its anterior and posterior walls, is formed by aponeuroses of three broad abdominal muscles.
The structure of the anterior and posterior walls of the vagina of the rectus abdominis is not the same. During the upper section of the rectus muscle, above the transverse line drawn between the superior anterior iliac spine of the right and left sides, the aponeurosis of the inner oblique abdominal muscle splits into two plates - the anterior and posterior.
The anterior plate of the aponeurosis together with the aponeurosis of the external oblique abdominal muscle forms the anterior wall of the vagina of the rectus abdominis muscle. The posterior plate, fused with the aponeurosis of the transverse abdominal muscle, forms the posterior wall of the vagina of the rectus abdominis muscle.
Below this level of this transverse line (4-5 cm below the navel) aponeuroses of all three abdominal muscles pass to the anterior surface of the rectus abdominis and form the anterior wall of her vagina. Therefore, below the indicated transverse line, the rectus abdominis behind is covered only with a transverse fascia. The lower edge of the tendon posterior wall of the vagina of the direct mouse i abdomen is clearly seen from the side of the abdominal cavity (through the peritoneum) or after the removal of the rectus abdominis and is called the arca line (linea aruata).
Below the arcuate line from the back of its surface, the rectus abdominal muscle is represented only by the transverse fascia, behind which are located retroperitoneal tissue and peritoneum.
