Utah Hockey Club Secures Thrilling Victory Over St. Louis Blues in Season Opener

Salt Lake City, October 10, 2024 – The newly rebranded Utah Hockey Club (UHC) made a stunning debut in their season opener, defeating the St. Louis Blues 4-3 in a nail-biting showdown at the Delta Center.

In front of a sold-out crowd of over 18,000 fans, Utah’s revamped roster showcased speed, skill, and resilience, overcoming an early deficit to secure the win. The Blues struck first with a power-play goal from Jordan Kyrou, but Utah responded quickly with rookie sensation Liam Greentree netting his first NHL goal.

The second period saw both teams exchange blows, with Robert Thomas restoring St. Louis’ lead before Utah’s Clayton Keller tied it up with a slick breakaway finish. The third period turned into a back-and-forth battle, with Utah’s newly acquired defenseman Jakob Chychrun firing a blistering slapshot past Jordan Binnington to take the lead.

St. Louis pushed hard in the final minutes, pulling their goalie for an extra attacker, but Utah’s goaltender Connor Ingram stood tall with 32 saves, including a game-saving stop on Pavel Buchnevich in the dying seconds. Logan Cooley sealed the victory with an empty-net goal before the Blues’ Jake Neighbours scored a late consolation.

'The energy in the building was incredible,' said Utah head coach André Tourigny. 'This is just the beginning for our team, and the fans showed why Utah deserves this team.'

The Blues, meanwhile, lamented missed opportunities. 'We had our chances, but their goalie was the difference,' said Blues captain Brayden Schenn.

Utah (1-0-0) looks to build momentum in their next game against the Colorado Avalanche, while St. Louis (0-1-0) seeks redemption against the Dallas Stars.
