The tournament will be held at the Guidant John Rose Oval Bandy Rink in Roseville, Minnesota from January 30 to February 5, 2023
The countries competing for the world championship will be defending champion Sweden, Norway, Finland and the host USA team.
This will be the third time USA Bandy has hosted the Women's World Championships, the previous years were 2006 and 2016.
USA Bandy has also hosted the 1995 Men's World Championships and the 2015 U17 Girl's World Championships.
The organization for the tournament is already underway, including work to obtain essential corporate and individual sponsors.
This will be the 13th Women's World Championships. The first was held in Lappeenranta, Finland in 2004. Since then the tournament has, in addition to the USA, been hosted in Budapest, Hungary; Irkutsk, Russia; Chengde, China; Drammen and Oslo, Norway; Borlange, Sweden; and in 2022 in Aby, Sweden.
From 2006 to 2008 the tournament was held every year. Since then it has taken place every other year.
USA Bandy has determined that the Women's World Championships should return to being held every year and the Federation of International Bandy fully supports this important and major decision and the positive impact it will have on the growth of women's and girl's bandy worldwide, including the ultimate goal of Bandy in the Winter Olympics.
The U.S. Women's National Team, having fallen just short in previous World Championships, is laser focused on medaling in 2023 on our home ice. The team will be led by a strong core of veteran players and recruiting efforts for new players has already begun. Training will begin in the summer and intensify in the fall, leading up to training and games at the Oval beginning in early November, right up to the tournament.
Hosting the 2023 Women's World Championships is a large undertaking by USA Bandy, both financially and in time and effort, and we welcome both sponsors and volunteers.
