Topher Taylor, a sex expert at Clonezone explains there are many reasons why you might want to try urethral play using these toys. 'Urethral toys are most commonly used for two reasons: BDSM medical play and to take advantage of the unique sensations that the practice delivers,' Taylor says.
'The urethra is jam-packed full of sensitive nerve endings, which if probed, can deliver unique and tingling sensations. A lot of people say the psychological association to exploring something considered taboo also contributes to the pleasure. Many men have described the sensation as "orgasmic".'
These toys are inserted into the urethra and according to Taylor, began as a medical fetish. 'Urethral play is also known as cock plugging, cock stuffing, and sounding.

It was originally seen as a BDSM practice but with the explosion of social media, more people are being exposed to urethral toys and the use of them is slowly being normalised,' he says.
Although sounding - stimulating the urethral with long, thin implements - is more commonly associated with men and people with penises, Taylor says women and vagina-having folk can also indulge in urethral play.
Depending on what you're into and the sensations you enjoy, there are a number of types of urethral sex toys. But beware, Taylor explains, not all come recommended by experts.
'These are long, surgical steel rods which are designed to reach through the length of the shaft [of the penis] and traditionally to the bladder,' he says. 'Sounds typically begin at 2mm diameter and grow quite large dependent on the user's experience level.'
