Will The CW ever have a female-led superhero series? With The Flash and Arrow so successful for The CW, when will fans see a female-led superhero series on the network? Basically, whenever uberproducer Greg Berlanti & Co. are ready. “At this moment, no [plans],” CW boss Mark Pedowitz said at the Television Critics Association’s press tour on Sunday. “But at this moment last year, Legends [of Tomorrow] didn’t really exist, so time will take its toll… There will be a moment in time, I don’t know when it’s going to come, but when Greg Berlanti and Andrew [Kreisberg] and Marc [Guggenheim] say, ‘We think it’s time,’ we’re going to give them that opportunity to do it.” For what it’s worth, Berlanti already has a female-led superhero project on another network, Supergirl over on CBS. Pedowitz also stressed that the network’s super line-up already has a pretty strong roster of leading ladies, including Katie Cassidy, Emily Bett Rickards Willa Holland on Arrow and Candice Patton and Danielle Panabaker on The Flash , not to mention Caity Lotz and Ciara Renée on the upcoming DC’s Legends of Tomorrow . The best chance The CW may have of developing a female-led show could be in Megalyn Echikunwoke, who voices the titular character on The Flash-Arrow animated spin-off Vixen , and will soon appear as the character in real life on an upcoming episode of Arrow . “Hopefully that character is going to spin itself out, if not, it can join Legends ,” Pedowitz said.
