Arranging it simply is your glasses have a prescription in numeric order; usually, numbers or charts helping your lenses create a better vision. The eyes prescription has some codes which the optician understands but we fail to, they are OD referring to Right eye, OS referring to Left eyes. SPH is for Sphere power, the correction for near or far sight, and CYL which is cylindrical that is the correction for Astigmatism.

  • The prescription is either for both or one eye, listing for eyes does not ignore the other; the prescription is possible to be for one eye.
  • The word "Plano" or "PI" stated at the beginning of the prescription means that the meridian for power reading is zero (0).
  • The sign A+ means hyperopic and a- means myopia.
  • Sign A- on the second indicates the kind of astigmatism.
  • An "axis" or "x" in the front third number is for the orientation of astigmatism.

There are different ways of prescribing by different doctors which is unlikely that the aforementioned prescription can accommodate the different versions.

The absence of further clarification acknowledges this as the best way to understand the eyeglass prescription.

Does wearing glasses change your eye shape?

No, wearing glasses does not change the eye shape but if you don't wear the right fit of the glasses you might get used to holding your head in a particular vision fitting perfectly for your not fit properly glasses that might look like there is some change in the shape of your eyes for the one looking at you, however, that is not the case, it is just the way your head tries to adjust well with the glasses.

Another reason why the person looking at you might feel there is a change in your eye shape is because of the power your lens carries, I being very nearsighted my eyes look smaller if someone looks through that strong lens. The same can happen if your lenses are wide enough; it makes the side of your face look narrower. Be it any kind of eye disorder you have long-sightedness or short-sightedness. The other person looking at you might feel the change in the shape of your eyes that is not true, it is just because of the wrong position of the lens or the string power of the lens that might make the other person feel the same. The stronger the lens greater is the change in other persons' vision.
