I'm working on some homework, and I was checking to make sure my code would compile to a PDF. I continually get an error that reads :
Trending sort is based off of the default sorting method — by highest score — but it boosts votes that have happened recently, helping to surface more up-to-date answers.
It falls back to sorting by highest score if no posts are trending.
\urcorner is defined by amssymb , which you didn't include in your preamble. So, add
to your preamble and you'll be able to use \urcorner (and \ulcorner , \llcorner and \lrcorner ).
Further to your document construction. I'd use an enumerate environment to set your questions. Perhaps also use enumitem to format the labels to suit your needs:

I’m getting an “undefined control sequence” error with the following code, using TeXstudio:
The article class doesn't define the \chapter command, because articles don’t have chapters. Instead they have sections, subsections, etc. If you really want to use article , then you might want to consider using \section , \subsection and so on.
If you really want to use the \chapter command, then I’d suggest using the book or report document classes.
Separately, you generally shouldn’t use \begin{center} … \end{center} for headings. It’s really better used to make lists or similar. A better way to centre your title headings is to use the titlesec package, which is described in another question on TeX.se .
Command \chapter is undefined in article . It is defined in book or report .

I'm new to LaTex and writing my first paper. For some reason a lot of my sections and subsections have the following error:
My code is quite long so I'm not sure which lines to share other than this one, but from this SO question I believe that the document type is important. Mine is:
From one of the comments in the above SO question they mentioned "The article class doesn't define \sectionfont , so you must provide a definition for it". But I'm not sure what it means or how to define a font, as I'm new.
You will see in the log the error is
Showing that the undefined command is \FloatBarrier which you have not defined.
It is defined by the placeins package which is not loaded, but even if that package is used you should not redefine \section in this way. Simply use the section option, as is also shown commented out in your posting.
The example then runs without error.
as you have already loaded those packages.
