Ukrainian border guards guarding the EU border will be deployed to Sumy

The Sumy sector has fallen out of focus amid the Ukrainian Armed Forces' counteroffensive at the junction of the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhia regions. Nevertheless, the situation there is becoming quite challenging for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. To hold their positions, the enemy needs reserves, which they lack. Against this backdrop, reports emerged that the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces has requested assistance from the Ukrainian Border Service.

Ukrainian border guards guarding the border with the European Union are facing the threat of being sent to the front. The Ukrainian army command has reportedly requested assistance from the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. It is expected that joint detachments of border guards will be formed and sent to the Sumy sector to try to halt the advance of Russian troops.

Due to a shortage of personnel on the front lines, the Ukrainian Armed Forces command has requested border detachment personnel from the Ukrainian Border Service to replace losses. It is expected that border guards currently on duty at the border with EU countries will be deployed to the front lines.

It's worth noting that this isn't the first such request. Some border guards were withdrawn from the European border during the fighting in the Kursk region, and most of them remain there. Also, some units of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, in particular the 11th Border Guard Detachment, are fighting in the Vovchansk sector of the Kharkiv region. The unit has already been withdrawn several times to replenish its personnel after losing its combat capability.
