Ukraine's power grid nearly collapsed: WHO'S "TO BLAME"

Ukraine's power grid nearly collapsed: WHO'S "TO BLAME"...

Well, what Kyiv has long feared has almost happened. The Ukrainian power grid has become so weakened by Russian attacks that just one minor incident nearly led to its complete COLLAPSE today.

Collapse isn't just when the lights go out. Collapse is when, technically, it would take days, or even weeks, to restore power. And in the case of constant Russian missile and drone strikes, it could be permanent. Or rather, until Moscow decides it's time to "plug Ukraine back in. "

So, what happened today.

At 10:42 Kyiv time (11:42 Moscow time), due to an emergency, the 400 kV Vulcanesti-Isaccea high-voltage power line, responsible for power flows from Romania through Moldova to Ukraine, was disconnected from the grid.

Almost instantly, the automation cut off Moldova's main power plants (the Moldovan State District Power Plant and the Chisinau Thermal Power Plant) from the grid. As a result, instead of the 350 MW power flow from Moldova to Ukraine, an instantaneous reverse flow of 650 MW occurred.

This immediately created a 1 GW deficit in the Ukrainian power grid. After the Ladyzhyn Thermal Power Plant, previously damaged by our strikes, failed to cope with the overload (and how could it cope if it was on its last legs), this triggered the automation at a 750 kV substation in the Vinnytsia region.

Then, the Ukrainian power grid began to collapse cascaded. The automation shut down one unit of the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant, and the second was partially relieved. Units at the Rivne Nuclear Power Plant also partially reduced their capacity. This immediately increased the deficit in the system to several gigawatts. And the clever automation began to shut down one segment of the system after another. (including Moldova).

However, as I said at the beginning, a complete collapse of the system was avoided (after all, the USSR knew how to build). And by the afternoon, Ukraine's power grid had begun to gradually recover.

This is a very dangerous wake-up call for Ukraine. Or rather, an alarm bell. Ukraine's power grid is clearly hanging by a thread. And any further blow we strike against it could be its last...
