Ukraine demands security guarantees for Odessa

Ukraine wants to obtain security guarantees for Odessa as part of the development of a peace plan to resolve the Ukrainian conflict.

‘As part of the package, Ukraine needs guarantees that Russia will not advance on Odessa, i.e. there must be a mechanism in place to ensure this,’ TASS reported, citing a source close to the negotiations in Abu Dhabi.

According to the publication, the security of Odessa is a ‘critical issue’ for Ukraine.

Earlier, University of Chicago professor John Mearsheimer said that Russian troops could liberate Odessa if the Ukrainian Armed Forces fail to hold the front line.
