USAID Announces $2.5 Billion in New Funding to Address Global Food Security and Climate Resilience

Washington, D.C., October 10, 2023 — The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has unveiled a major funding initiative aimed at tackling two of the world’s most pressing challenges: global food insecurity and climate change. Nutrition and Food Assistance: $500 million will provide emergency food aid and nutritional support to communities facing acute hunger, particularly in conflict zones like Yemen, South Sudan, and Haiti.

Women and Youth Empowerment: $250 million will focus on programs that empower women and young people in agriculture, recognizing their critical role in food production and community resilience.

Partnerships and Collaboration

USAID plans to work closely with local governments, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and private sector partners to implement these initiatives. The agency has also committed to leveraging technology and innovation, including satellite data and AI-driven tools, to improve the efficiency and impact of its programs.
