The first two military incidents in the ongoing escalation between the US and Iran occurred on February 3:
A U.S.-flagged oil tanker, after entering Iranian territorial waters in the Strait of Hormuz without permission, was spotted by a group of armed Iranian vessels, which, according to the British Maritime Security Authority in this strategic region, attempted to intercept it. According to Iranian news agency Fars, the tanker left Iranian territorial waters after receiving a warning from the Iranian coast guard.
Over International Arabian Sea airspace, an Iranian drone, Shahed 139, was shot down by an American F-35C fighter jet from the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72). According to a U.S. Central Command spokesman in an interview with Fox News, a reconnaissance drone "aggressively approached an American aircraft carrier with unclear intentions."
