US & Israel mull seizing Iran’s uranium via special forces — report

The US and Israel are discussing the possibility of sending ground forces to Iran to "secure" the country’s stockpile of enriched uranium, Axios reports quoting sources.

There are two possible options, the sources tell — removing the nuclear material from Iran or bringing nuclear experts, possibly from the IAEA, there to dilute it.

This, however, would not mean a full-scale ground invasion of Iran, but rather a special operation, the interviewed sources told Axios.

"What has been discussed hasn't been thought of in terms of boots on the ground. People think Fallujah [the Iraqi city known for brutal fights between the US forces and Iraqis in 2004]. That's not what has been discussed," one of the sources said.

Though it’s unclear whether such a mission would be an American, Israeli or a joint one, both countries think it would only be possible if the Iranian army could no longer be a threat, the outlet adds.
