DeKalb County, MissouriDeKalb County is a county located in the northwest portion of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 11,029. Its county seat is Maysville. The county was organized February 25, 1845 and named for General Johann de Kalb, Baron de Kalb, of the Revolutionary War. DeKalb County is part of the St. Joseph, MO-KS Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Kansas City-Overland Park-Kansas City, MO-KS Combined Statistical Area.

University of California, MercedThe University of California, Merced (UC Merced or colloquially, UCM) is a public land-grant research university in Merced, California, United States. It is one of the ten campuses in the University of California (UC) system. Established in 2005, UC Merced is the newest campus within the UC system. The primary campus is located around five miles north of Merced and sits adjacent to Lake Yosemite. The main campus is around 1,026 acres (415 hectares) in size. Large swaths of protected natural grasslands surround the university. UC Merced was initiated because the population of the San Joaquin Valley had grown substantially. UC Merced consists of three undergraduate, graduate, and professional schools. The upcoming medical school is being established in partnership with UCSF and their satellite campus, UCSF Fresno in order to address the lack of healthcare services available in the San Joaquin Valley. UC Merced offers over 60 undergraduate degrees and 18 graduate and professional degrees and roughly 8,000 undergraduates and 700 graduate students were enrolled at UCM as of fall 2023. The university is classified among "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very High research activity" and had $62.2 million in research and development expenditures in 2023. UC Merced is one of the largest employers in Merced County. The UC Merced Golden Bobcats currently compete in the NAIA as members of the Cal Pac. In 2025, the university plans to move to NCAA Division II.

Oakwood UniversityOakwood University is a private, historically black Seventh-day Adventist university in Huntsville, Alabama. It is the only HBCU owned and operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Oakwood University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and the Department of Education of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists (through the Adventist Accrediting Association) to award associate, baccalaureate, and master's degrees. Oakwood University owns and operates the Christian radio station WJOU 90.1 FM, formerly WOCG. Oakwood University is the only ISO 9001 certified HBCU in the United States. In 2014, it became the first HBCU to offer a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC). In 2018, the U.S. Senate recognized Oakwood University for being the fifth leading producer of African-American applicants to U.S. medical schools. That same year, the university became the first academic institution to receive the 2018 Crystal Apple Award from the Partnership for a Healthier America for its campus wellness initiatives.
Union Star R-II School DistrictUnion Star R-II School District is the name of the school district that is located in Union Star, Missouri. It is a K-12 facility that has about 200 total students. The school mascot is the Trojan, and its colors are blue and gold. It is partly in DeKalb County, where it includes Union Star. It extends into Andrew County.
