Winter is upon us as freezing conditions have arrived in the UK in early December. Many people across the country will plan Christmas vacations to take advantage of the winter sun during the holiday season.

However, travelers' plans could be rocked by chaos as Spain's airports face a series of strikes this Christmas. Airport Authority AENA crews are planning to go out over the festive period, including around New Year – as reported by The Daily Star.

Strikes are scheduled to take place on December 22, 23, 30, and 31 as well as on January 6 and 8. The walkouts could cause 'chaos' according to the CCOO union - and all Spanish airports are expected to be affected.

More than 10,000 workers will strike over a dispute over productivity bonuses. Staff says air traffic is now back to pre-pandemic levels, with some airports even expecting to see more passengers than in 2019.

If a resolution is not found, strikes could continue until early 2023 and even into Easter, meaning those planning mid-term breaks could also face delays and cancellations. . The union said the strikes could "throw Spain's airports into chaos amid the Christmas holidays".

He said: “Dividend payments to private owners have been permitted, and as a result, the AENA group's employees demand payment of what is owed to them.

Despite the positive words of the AENA Group and the Ministry of Transport, the delay in reaching an agreement is causing a lot of concern among the workers and unions present at the bargaining table."
