In the last two months leading into the earnings, SWN’s stock had already risen ~31%, mainly due to the rebound in natural gas prices during the same period. SWN’s stock is in an overall falling trend Falling natural gas prices over the last year have been weighing on the entire upstream sector. As seen in the above chart, SWN’s stock is in a falling trend and has seen a pattern of lower highs and lower lows. SWN’s 2015 relative performance In 2015, SWN underperformed bigger upstream companies from the SPDR S&P 500 ETF (SPY).
