Have you tried the two-tongue technique?
What's not awesome about getting oral sex ? All you have to do is sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride. But while taking a totally hands-off approach can be blissful, it never hurts to know what you like (or want to try), and actually ask for it.
“Oral sex is hot sex—and great oral can take your sex life to the next level," says Jessica O’Reilly, Ph.D., host of the @SexWithDrJess Podcast .
And, of course, it increases the odds you’ll orgasm—clearly a big perk, says Rachel Needle, Psy.D., a sex therapist and licensed psychologist at the Center for Marital and Sexual Health of South Florida.
Add these new moves to your repertoire (and clue your partner in, ASAP) to dial your experience up a notch.
Teasing can be hot AF, which is why Needle recommends asking your partner to provoke you. “A lick here and a lick there, starting slowly and building intensity, can create anticipation, excitement, and increased pleasure,” she says.
Have your partner approach your vulva from the side and squeeze the inner lips between their lips, O’Reilly advises. While they’re doing this, they can run their tongue between the groove they’ve created while sucking on the area.
The goal with this one is to make your partner’s fingers feel like another tongue. Blindfold yourself (or have your partner blindfold you) and have them get their fingers soaking wet with lube, O’Reilly says. Then, encourage them to “lick” around your thighs, mons pubis (the fleshy tissue above your vulva), and outer labia with their fingers.
Have them move on to stroke your inner labia gently in an up and down motion with their wet fingers, using their real tongue in the mix, too. They can also use a flat, wet palm to stroke up and down over your vulva as they let out a heavy breath over your clitoris.
Have your S.O. place their palm flat against your mons pubis and bend their fingers down to press against the full width and length of your vulva, O’Reilly says. They can then slowly slide their fingers up and down while maintaining pressure against your vulva and clitoris. Your partner can also get some tongue action into the mix: Have them slip their tongue between the grooves of their fingers to tease your labia while their fingers go up and down.
Ask your partner to suck on your clitoris instead of just licking it. “Sucking allows for more deep pressure,” says Debra Laino , D.H.S., a sex therapist and clinical sexologist based in Delaware. She recommends having your S.O. start out gently and then increase the sucking pressure as you get aroused.
Dopamine levels are higher during the anticipation of pleasure than when you actually receive pleasure, O’Reilly says—that’s why she loves this move. It’s super simple: Have your partner breathe kisses all over your sensitive areas down there—your inner thighs, labia, etc. The goal is for them to hover their lips as close to the surface of your skin without actually touching it.
The nose’s cartilage can actually do a lot for your vagina, which is why O’Reilly recommends having your partner rock their head back and forth, and up and down around your vulva. If your partner makes some noise while they’re down there, even better—the vibrations can feel amazing, she says.

As most people with a vulva will tell you, oral sex can be the difference between a lackluster night of sex and an out-of-this-world orgasmic experience. Research has shown that run-of-the-mill P-in-V intercourse isn't enough to send most vulva owners over the edge : in a 2017 study in the Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy , nearly 75% of women said they needed external clitoral stimulation to have an orgasm, or that clitoral stimulation made their orgasms feel even better. (Only 18% said they could come from vaginal penetration alone.) My friend, this is where oral sex comes in. As an added bonus, lots of people insist oral sex is more intimate, in a way, than penetrative sex. In other words, it's a great way to bond with your partner.
To help you have the best cunnilingus experience ever, we put together a list of the hottest oral sex positions to try with a partner ASAP. Whichever position(s) you choose, be sure to check out our list of the best oral sex tips , including how to tease your partner before going all-in, and how to bring toys in the mix. (A vibrating butt plug combined with oral action? Hello, blended orgasm .)
If you and your partner are looking for even more ways to spice up your oral sex game, you might want to peruse our lists of the best blowjob positions and the best positions for some good ol' fashioned 69'ing .
This position is great for playing with power dynamics. The receiving partner gets to feel like royalty as they perch on a throne (or, you know, an ottoman or chair) while the giver kneels on the floor.
On the one hand, it's super sexy and super productive. On the other hand, some people find it hard to focus on giving and receiving at the same time.
If direct clitoral stimulation is a little much for the receiver, they can close their legs and have the giver apply indirect stimulation to labia and other areas around the clit. You could warm up in this position before transitioning into something more intense, or just stay here for the duration! Remember, the clitoris is so much more than that little bud at the top of the labia, so licking the surrounding area is still going to feel un-be-lieeeevable.
Named for the famous magician, this oral sex position features two "magic tricks." The first: by placing a pillow under the receiver's hips, you can ~magically~ tilt their pelvis so their feet can rest comfortably on the giver's shoulder blades. The second: in this position, the giver can gently push up on the receiver's abdomen, helping to expose the clitoris from underneath the clitoral hood. Note: only try the second "trick" if the receiver is into direct clitoral stimulation. If not, it might be too intense.
Many people with a vulva find they're more sensitive on one side of the clitoris, and this is the perfect sex position to make the most of that heightened sensitivity. The receiver lies on the bed with one leg in the air, while the giver kneels on the floor. (Note: the receiver should raise the leg corresponding with the sensitive side of the clitoris—it'll help expose the area to the giver's tongue.)
There's an age old blowjob/hand job trick where the giver does seven shorter strokes followed by one longer one. According to our friends at Cosmo , a similar principle goes for pleasuring a person with a vulva. The giver can alternate between lighter moves—like gentle licks along the labia—and more intense moves, like a hard suck or a little finger action.
This position is essentially an all-access pass to the receiver's vulva and anus, if rimming is on the menu.
Talk about another great position for adding a rim job into the mix! The giver can dabble in a little analingus while stimulating the receiver's clitoris with their fingers.
The receiver lies on their back holding both legs in the air. The giver can treat them to a thigh/booty massage while they go to town.
Ever heard of the "Kivin" method? If not, prepare to have your mind blown. The Kivin method is essentially sideways cunnilingus, and some people with a vulva say it helps them achieve orgasm faster. To make it feel even better, the giver can use their hand to apply pressure to the receiver's taint.
In this position, the giver is in the water and the receiver is on their back with their hips right at the edge, according to Cosmo . PSA: this is the correct way to have pool sex. Doin' it in the water simply isn't the greatest idea .
In this position, the giver uses their mouth to create suction over the receiver's labia and clitoris, then moves their head side to side in a swiping motion, according to Cosmo . Consider using a sex pillow (or just a regular pillow!) to prop up the receiver's hips.

Actress Evan Rachel Wood recently took to Twitter to air her frustrations over the MPAA forcing a cunnilingus scene out of her upcoming movie "Charlie Countryman." She found it a bit odd that a consensual scene of sexual pleasure was considered inappropriate while extreme, murderous violence was not: "The scene where the two main characters make 'love' was altered because someone felt that seeing a man give a woman oral sex made people 'uncomfortable' but the scenes in which people are murdered by having their heads blown off remained intact and unaltered." Wood also speculated that the scene would not have been cut if it had shown a woman going down on a man.
She is utterly correct: Hollywood is sexist and sex-phobic. I'm not going to use this as an excuse to rant on the topic, though -- been there, done that . Instead, let's take a moment to recognize the best moments in cine-lingus history, shall we? Some of them are funny, some are sexy, and all deserve kudos for venturing where the MPAA would rather they not.
This 2009 film doesn't beat around the ... bush: it opens with an oral sex scene . It isn't the steamiest -- the action between John Krasinski's character, Burt, and Maya Rudolph's Verona all happens under the sheets and out of view -- but it's the awkward, fumbling nature of their romp that makes it notable.
It all starts with a dreamy nighttime make-out in a deserted corn field. Before long, Chloe Sevigny's top is off and Hilary Swank (as Brandon) is unbuttoning her pants. All we see are Sevigny's blissful smiles and the whites of her eyes -- which tell us everything we need to know about what's happening off-screen.
In this 1998 film, Robert Downey Jr. pushes Heather Graham up against a wall and shoves his face in her derriere. Then he spins her around and goes down on her in a fever pitch. Zero nudity -- and yet it's steamy enough to have inspired someone to post it to the tube site YouPorn, alongside graphic penis-enlargement ads.
You won't find this one on YouPorn. On a drunken impulse, Ben Stiller's character inelegantly shoves his face in Greta Gerwig's crotch. She is so unimpressed by his lingual moves that in the middle of it she says, "Did you hear a train?" In seconds, it's over.
As Rebecca Traister wrote in Salon at the time of the 2003 movie's release, "a mustachioed and criminally attractive Mark Ruffalo takes recovering-moppet [Meg] Ryan to bed, plants her on her stomach, spreads her legs, and performs oral sex on her from behind in a scene that lasts a breathtaking two minutes." Finally, oral sex gets more than a couple seconds of screen time.
In one of the film's spookier scenes -- which is saying something -- Mila Kunis goes down on Natalie Portman. That in and of itself isn't the creepy part: It's that Kunis repeatedly transforms into Portman throughout this nightmare sequence.
It's absurd, but it's a classic. Kevin, played by Thomas Ian Nicholas, attempts to get out of the doghouse by going down on Tara Reid's Vicki -- with her parents downstairs. When her dad comes upstairs to tell her that dinner is ready, she yells with perfect timing, "I'm coming! I'm coming!"
Luckily, there's very little of Billy Bob in this sex scene . It's all about Oscar-winner Halle Berry's convincing performance of ecstasy.
A youthful Michael Douglas hiking a completely naked Sharon Stone's leg over his shoulder while maintaining scary-sexy eye contact? They just don't make Hollywood sex scenes like this anymore.
Ryan Gosling backlit as he pulls down Michelle Williams' underwear. Ryan Gosling's face shoved in between her legs, while she moans and pulls at his hair. Ryan Gosling resting his face on her thigh afterward while she says in disbelief, over and over again, "Oh my God." Yes, indeed.
