Twitter Netizen question Li Fei Fei's pro-Beijing background; Cancelled many Twitter users' account
BeWater(20 May) Li Feifei, American Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) expert, joined Twitter last week. External has concern she has a close relationship with the Chinese government. Some netizens worried the China government influence Twitter. Right after a economist disclosed Li’s background, his four accounts were suspended by Twitter for review. On the other hand, Some netizens' accounts have been banned and warned after sharing some posts related to Li. Those involved have initiated a petition to the White Houserequesting investigation of both Twitter and Li.
Li Feifei, the former Clouds expert of Google, was on board as Independent director of Twitter last Monday (on 11 May). After that, some Twitter users sorted out some information about the network and cooperation between Li and the Chinese government. They expressed their concern that Chinese may influence Twitter to suppress opposite voices.
Netizens' concerns were not their imagination. An economist had a live on Sunday (17 May). He thought Li as an independent director was like to "let cat watch over fish" and did a review of Li's background deeply. On Tuesday (19 May), Twitter banned his accounts "Finance Cold-eye", "Cold Mountain review comment "and "Freedom wind", etc. His spare account, "Finance Cold-eye 2.0" has also been warned.
He questioned the ban of his accounts should be related to Li and complained to media that Twitter and its parent company, Google, suppressed Freedom of speech. He also listed information of other banned accounts which challenged Li before. He revealed he initiated the petition to the White House on the internet to request the investigation Chinese Communist Party(CCP) suppressing speech and Twitter banning dissident accounts quickly. He also asked to look into the cooperation between Google China Center and CCP in details via Li.
Regarding the appointment of Li as director and bans of some accounts, a pro-democracy activist Zhou Fengsuo criticised that Twitter sacrificed their value. He requested Twitter and Li to explain.
Zhou said, "This company doesn't dare to face this problem. Even though many people work in American corporates, they still rely on the CCP in many areas. Li has a close connection with China. She is not merely a technical person. Many things she has done are suspicious. And I hope she can reply to these questions in public. Why does she corporate with China on politics in high profile? Twitter should answer this question in public, but not suppress Freedom of speech."
French News reviewer Wang Longmeng thought China quickly influenced Twitter after Li joined.
Wang said, "Twitter banned those accounts which criticised Li and disclosed her background. It's no doubt because of Li being as the director. If their content is inconsistent with the facts, Twitter can give a warning. Most of news and information were public posts. It is a typical practice for Beijing to ban accounts because of criticism and sharing negative news. Our concern came quickly. Twitter is "Beijing-ization" quickly along with Li joining.
Wang urged western internet company and governments to realise China poisons the market and establish a system to stop CCP penetrating.
Wang said, "Freedom of speech is one of the essential rights for citizens. It is also a vital part of the value in US democracy. I hope the US can investigate incidents that Twitter employs Li who has a Chinese background and maybe a representative of CCP. I request its parent company, Google, to explain and handle it. I hope these corporations understand China has a vast market; however, China, also has Wuhan pneumonia and CCP virus.
The economist who has his accounts banned pointed put in live that Li was a member of the United Front Work Department of CPC Central Committee reunion in Europe and the US. She also has a close relationship with the second and the third generation of China officials. Li is involved in "the red detachment of women" plan which aims to penetrate in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Europe and US. This plan was established by Zhou Enlai. Ex-wife of Rupert Murdoch (Media predator) Wendi Murdoch, American Chinese politician Elaine Chao, the Chief Executive of HKSAR Carrie Lam, American Chinese councillor Judy Chu and Grace Meng, and television presenter Yang Lan are members of this plan.
This economist analysed that Twitter investors targeted Li's "CCP representative" role. It was similar to the case that Twitter employed Kathy Chen as the representative of Greater China in 2016, given Chen has both military and public security background. Twitter would like to earn the advisement fee in China market.
Rfa couldn't fact check part of the source. Until now, Li didn't have any respond in Twitter or other public platforms.
This economist quoted other news that Li was a leader in establishing the Google Cloud AI Center in China and cooperated with Tsinghua University for technology innovation. Li participates "Dragonfly" project in Google. In 2017, Li , Carrie Lam and other pro-Beijing people were awarded as "The top 10 women".
