Bones was to authenticate a rare Iron Age find, but as usual moans about it's 'urgency' when told to accompany Booth to Hollywood to investigate some coyote-nibbled human remains found around Los Angeles Airport. Upon arriving in LA they meet up with Special Agent Tricia Finn, a would be script-writer obsessed with the possible filming of Bones's book. Meanwhile back at the Jeffersonian, Dr. Goodman, steps away from his management role to return to his archaeologist roots to head up the authentication of the Iron Age man but terribly annoys Hodgins with his theatrical methods. Some details about the location of the find do not match the results from the skeleton analysis and causes Dr. Goodman to refuse to definitively authenticate the find. The LAX skull clearly belongs to a woman who had plastic surgery which keeps Angela from being able to reconstruct the victims features. The only lead, an illegal breast implant points them toward plastic surgeon Dr. Kostov who reported the shipment stolen. A meeting with escort madame, Ivana Bardu, provides Booth and Bones with the name of their victim hooker Sandra aka 'Rachel LaChance', who vaguely fits one of Angela's reconstruction attempts, so Booth 'orders' her best friend Leslie Snow. Leslie provides them with the name of an old boyfriend of Rachel's, beach volleyball-playing actor-barman Nick Hudson who tells them of her surgery addiction. Zach finds the murder weapon fits only the invention of L.A. plastic surgeon Dr. Henry Atlas, who had a peculiar relationship with Sandra under a third name, but...βKGF Vissers
Harry Groener, who plays Dr. Henry Atlas, also played the evil mayor, Richard Wilkins, in season 3 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997). The show also featured David Boreanaz , who plays agent Booth, as the vampire Angel.
The rental car in California is a 1965 Mustang, not a 1966.
Dr. Jack Hodgins: You wanted to see me?
Dr. Daniel Goodman: You are a very difficult and stubborn man, Dr. Hodgins. Right now I'd like nothing more than to fire you. In my position very few people tell me the truth anymore. I find I enjoy it, in some perverse way.
Dr. Jack Hodgins: You're willing to admit you bailed on the authentication?
Dr. Daniel Goodman: But not for the reasons you think. True, we might be able to authenticate the skeleton by taking him apart, destroying him. If he's a fake that will be fine, nothing lost. But I think he's the real thing.
Dr. Jack Hodgins: You do know he's been dead for fifteen hundred years, right?
Dr. Daniel Goodman: I am an archaeologist. This is what we do. We step outside the facts and tell ourselves the story of an individual or a culture. And if the story I tell myself about this man who lived fifteen hundred years ago is true, if he was laid to rest by people who respected and loved him, don't I owe it to them not to let the pure scientists desecrate his remains?
Dr. Jack Hodgins: Or you could be totally rational and say you were waiting for imaging technology to improve to the point where it wasn't necessary to disassemble him.
Dr. Daniel Goodman: Ah, yes. I suppose I could say that. It's less, uh...
Dr. Jack Hodgins: Sentimental - for the pure scientists.
This story revolves around plastic surgery and those that want to be 'pretty,' or 'beautiful,' or 'handsome.' This seems very hypocritical from the standpoint that the lead actors are such attractive people. This was very-very annoying. It's akin to a thin person telling an overweight person how they shouldn't need to diet or get in shape.
