A Turkish sex cult leader and televangelist who preached Islamic sermons while surrounded by scantily-clad young women has been jailed for more than 8,500 years in prison for child abuse, rape and fraud following a retrial.
Adnan Oktar, 66, is known for holding theological discussions while surrounded by glamorous women who he dubbed his 'kittens'.
He was sentenced last year to 1,075 years in prison after being found guilty of ten separate charges including child sexual abuse, leading a criminal gang, rape, blackmail, fraud, political and military espionage and causing torment.
This ruling was overturned earlier this year by an upper court.
But following a retrial, the high court in Istanbul yesterday sentenced Oktar to 8,656 years in prison - an eightfold increase to his previous sentence.

Oktar was arrested in 2018 along with dozens of his followers in police raids on his properties in Istanbul and other cities as part of an investigation into his group
The court held Oktar responsible for the crimes committed by his disciples as he was the head of the cult. Ten others were also sentenced to lengthy prison sentences.
Oktar, who had pleaded not guilty, welcomed the final ruling, saying it is 'God's will'.
'We have full confidence in our state,' Oktar said, reports Hurriyet newspaper . 'We are happy with the decision. God made the decision. There are good days in our lives.
'Islam will dominate the world. Turkey will also be a beautiful country. May the decision be beneficial.'
A number of women who have since left the cult told his trial that they were subjected to sexual slavery. One woman testified that Oktar had sexually assaulted her and forced the women to take contraceptive pills.

In January last year, Oktar had been sentenced for more than 1,000 years and the initial trial featured lurid details and harrowing sex crime allegations, with Oktar telling the presiding judge in December that he had close to 1,000 girlfriends.
'There is an overflowing of love in my heart for women. Love is a human quality. It is a quality of a Muslim,' he said in another hearing in October.
He added on another occasion: 'I am extraordinarily potent.'
Oktar first came to public attention in the 1990s when he was the leader of a sect that was caught up in multiple sex scandals.

One of the women at his trial, identified only as CC, told the court that Oktar had repeatedly sexually abused her and other women.

Asked about 69,000 contraception pills found in his home by the police, Oktar said they were used to treat skin disorders and menstrual irregularities.
Oktar was arrested in 2018 along with dozens of his followers in police raids on his properties in Istanbul and other cities as part of an investigation into his group.
The arrests came after Turkey's media watchdog imposed fines on Oktar's TV channel and suspended broadcasts of his shows where he was surrounded by women who had undergone cosmetic surgery and were known as 'kittens.'
The televangelist - who uses the pen name Harun Yahya - is also known for a series of books he has authored promoting creationism against Darwin's theory of evolution.

A Turkish social media influencer says she's being prosecuted in her country for posting "joke" photos inside the world-famous Sex Museum in Amsterdam.
Merve Taskin, 23, shared pictures of sex toys she bought at the museum during a birthday trip to the Netherlands in January last year.
A few months later she says she was arrested in Turkey, where sharing obscene content is considered a crime.
Now she says she has been summoned to court to face obscenity charges.
Under Turkish law, any person who publishes obscene material can be fined or sentenced to jail for up to three years.
"My purpose was to make jokes," Ms Taskin, a prominent Instagram personality in Turkey with almost 600,000 followers, told the BBC.
The Turkish embassy in London did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Calls went unanswered.
Ms Taskin, who lives in Istanbul, said she visited Amsterdam with two friends to celebrate her 22nd birthday.
One item of their to-do list was the Sex Museum, which attracts tourists from across the world.
Inside, Ms Taskin took to Instagram to share photos of merchandise on sale, including penis-shaped pasta and a "sexy bottle opener".
To Ms Taskin, the pictures seemed innocent enough, but back in Turkey, authorities took a different view.
She says she was arrested twice in the months following her return, once during a summer holiday. On the second occasion, she said she gave a statement to a prosecutor.
This, Ms Taskin believed, would be the end of the matter. But earlier this year, she was surprised to receive a text message summoning her to court in Istanbul.
The BBC has seen a screen shot of a text message, which says Ms Taskin is expected to appear in court on 26 October for violating Article 226 of Turkey's penal code.
Article 226 refers to a range of crimes relating to obscene material that is deemed offensive.
Since receiving the court summons, Ms Taskin says she has deleted many tweets "so they wouldn't complain again".
Ms Taskin said she was afraid to testify in court but will do so willingly. She tweeted about the court summons last week, leading to widespread coverage of her case in the Netherlands.
The director of the Sex Museum, Monique van Marle, told the BBC she found this situation "absolutely ridiculous".
She said the museum had messaged Ms Taskin to say it was "sorry to hear about the trouble you are in", calling her a "great role model to other women".
"Our museum is intended to educate people all around the world about the history of sex. We admire you for expressing yourself and posting such pictures," the message read.
Websites, publishers and government critics have been censored and prosecuted for obscenity under Turkish law.
Human rights groups say freedom of expression online has been in decline under the government of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
His critics call him an autocratic leader intolerant of dissent, who harshly silences anyone who opposes him and his conservative, Islamic values.
Freedom House says Turkey "remains one of most challenging places in the European region to exercise one's right to free speech and expression". Journalists, activists and opposition figures face "widespread persecution for criticising the government", Freedom House says.
Last year, censorship of social media tightened, after Turkey's parliament passed a law to control platforms.
