Afro-Turks (Turkish: Afrikalı Türkler) are Turkish people of African Zanj descent, who trace their origin to the Ottoman slave trade like the Afro-Abkhazians. Afro-Turk population is estimated to be between 5,000 and 20,000 people. Afro-Turks are distinct from African immigrants in Turkey, which number around 1.5 million individuals as of 2017 according to state-owned Anadolu Agency. [3][4]

Ahmet Ali Çelikten[1][2] (born İzmirli Alioğlu Ahmed; 1883 - 24 June 1969), also known as İzmirli Ali Ahmet (English: Ahmet Ali from İzmir), was a Turkish aviator of Afro-Turkish descent regarded as the first black pilot in history. [3][4][5] He was one of the first black men to become a fighter pilot, receiving his "wings" in 1914.
Black people in Turkey are generally perceived as honest, hard-working and friendly with locals so people just started liking them in time. Football might've contributed as well, Turks love football and Africans are excellent players often recruited by Turkish clubs.
Adil, a striking eight-year-old boy with dark skin and green eyes, had the second name "Zenci", now a pejorative Turkish word for "black", roughly equivalent to "Negro".
It's known as the first and the last autobiographical and introspective study of Turkey's declining Black minority. Olpak, an Afro-Turkish writer and activist, coined the term Afro-Turk and founded the movement to help resurrect their identity. He died in 2016.
