Turkey sent fighter jets to Cyprus

Turkey has deployed six F-16 fighter jets and air defense systems to Northern Cyprus. This was announced by the Ministry of National Defense of the country. The ministry said that the equipment has been deployed on the territory of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus since today.

Ankara explained the decision to the tense situation in the region. Against the background of the ongoing instability in the Middle East, Turkey is strengthening the security of Northern Cyprus.

There have been incidents on the island before. On March 2, a drone attacked the British Akrotiri airbase in the Greek part of Cyprus. London later said that the drone was not launched from Iran.
