I need people to understand that the dance of the dragons did not happen because Alicent Hightower misheard a prophecy. And tbh i don't think she actually was listening to Viserys last words she just heard the name Aegon and because of her own bias she immediately thought it was her son. She did not listen to rest of his words she just heard the name of her son and stopped thinking. She heard what she wanted to hear.
But that's not the reason why the war happened. It happened because of generational trauma and the seeds of hatred that the parents planted into their children's minds. Otto Hightower has been scheming to get his blood on the throne for many years and that dinner could have not change that. Viserys broke a tradition by naming a female heir to the throne. Not a law - a tradition or whatever you want to call it. It is just assumed in Westeros that the heir is male because of their patriarchal culture.
And please shut up with the "the war happened because there are too many Aegons". It is normal to recycle the name of your famous ancestor.
The show only did this to make Alicent seem more sympathetic but in my opinion they kinda did the opposite. She chose to put a literal rapist that she disowned earlier on in the episode on the throne instead of Rhaenyra. Alicent is a victim to a point because from now on her actions can not be justified. Having trauma from your father does not give you an excuse. I have sympathy for young Alicent and I get it that Otto started it but Alicent still plays a big part in all the terrible things that happen later on and trauma can not excuse that. And again she wants a rapist to sit on the throne and that alone makes me despise her.
And before you Team Greens come at me and say "yeah Aegon is a rapist but Daemon is a pedophile and you still support him" I don't. I am Daemon Targaryen's biggest hater but I'm still Team Black because I believe Targaryen women have been wronged too many times. Rhaenyra was the rightful heir.

Friendly reminder that Helaena Targaryen did nothing wrong her entire life but still had to pay a terrible price because Alicent couldn't control her own greed
