Verbier sits in amongst the stunning Swiss Alps. Going up to the top of the bike park, gaining about m of elevation. There are well-built jumps of all sizes. As we descend further towards Verbier, the trails enter the woods with many natural features. Back up to the top, we were joined by Emile Siegenthaler There is plenty of terrain well worthy of a downhill bike. Downhill for days for the reigning World Champion. Trailforks alerted us this trail, the namesake of Richard Rocket Branson, who can occasionally be spotted in town. From Le Chable, we took the newly opened Bruson lift and then began a minute climb. First Look: Commencal T. We're Back! In Verbier now, been riding here for a few days and still a few days to go, agree with all said in this article, amazing riding, having soooo much fun! There isn't one cool place that actually needs more advertising, that's for damn sure. Verbier, one of the most over hyped alpine destinations. Ridiculous expensive to stay, to eat etc. Drive 1,5 hours to the south and you find Pila, or 3 hours and your in Finale. Which are much better riding destinations. Yep, riding's great though only on a par with most other areas around , but otherwise its just Italy, without the amazing food, phone internet and 3 times the price. Went here for holidays last week. Wasnt impressed but the mountains themselves were great Trails were decent, but nothing exceptional. But ive come to realize many bike resorts in europe are just not even close to being as developed as stuff in BC Canada. Prices were to be expected for any resort town. Food was good, but for the cost it should be. The town life being from 9am-3am isnt for me as well, guess im getting old or something. Been living here for almost 2 years now and have never experienced such rudeness from these french swiss before. Will definitely not be going back. Lenzerheide is a far better resort town and not nearly the same pain to get to. I agree for the development part, basically the french part of the Valley is stuck in the and can't develop anything that is modern trail-wise. It might be a mix of elitism and a lack of curiosity but yes, some of the new trails are basically just 'meh'. The new 'flowtrail' mentioned in this article is a good example. Berms feels like and features are almost non-existent. There is no progression to be had and the trail is getting old very fast. Tourism-wise it's a bad investment. In my opinion it's where the resort of Graubuenden are years ahead. They are not afraid of building and rebuilding trails that are very tourist oriented and fun for all levels. Finally, while i understand the need for sponsored content, this article felt rushed same for the pictures. As a tourist i'm not sure i would want to go there after reading it. In my opinion you get good value for money regardless. Tons of trails, excellent lift access, huge amount of terrain to explore. Not saying everything about it is great, but Verbier is worth a visit for sure. Where should I ride? Desire is a full day big alpine ride with my 14yo son. A potential bonus ride would be able to get the 2 younger siblings and mom on a big long flow trail. All of us will need to rent bikes. Col De Mille looks pretty epic. Any must do epic family hikes? Aosta Valley Freeride run shuttles and guided tours in the area too and are probably the people you want to talk to about it. If you really want to do a 'full day, big alpine ride' then Plaine Morte in Crans Montana about 1hr from Verbier would be THE big alpine ride, mostly relatively chill but a few steep shaley bits up high, and a big pedal back to Sierre afterwards. Verbier has plenty of big alpine stuff, mostly in a bike park setting it's also very steep in general, it might be pretty intense for a 14yo but expensive and not too many intermediate options. To be honest you'd pretty much struggle to find a bad choice, other than the obvious bad choice which is to only spend 2 days riding. Also don't rely on Trailforks in the alps, it is not as useful as it is in North America. Get a few other map apps like Alltrails for example, because most of the good bike trails are also hiking trails. Socket: Thanks for the reply! Aosta got cut from the ride plan. I realized that abandoning my wife and 3 kids at La Thuille while my son and I go ride bikes would be a bad idea So I decided just to stick around Verbier, plenty of options for them to keep occupied. Figuring a Col De Mille loop and this one: fatmap. We're going to spend 2 nights at Massa Vecchia in Italy, too. So 3 days riding! Verbier is just too expensive for non Swiss people. Lift, food ans bed. And third world french people have to park far away at the chable. I have since been back in the winter and also really enjoyed it. Switzerland is expensive in general, but doesn't necessarily have to cost a fortune, I visited for the day whilst staying in a nearby town, drove and parked on a side street for free and rolled down to the main lift. If you want to stay on a budget, either get an apartment and cook for yourself, or stay in the campsite up towards Lourtier. Take a packed lunch and dont buy coffees on the mountain or in town. There are so many trails not mentioned in the sponsored article above obvs so dont write the place off based on a fairly average bike park with limited bike lifts. For me, the long season is really useful, as it gives us somewhere to ride after the French and some Italian resorts have shut. I love the Graubunden area too, Lenzerheide and Davos are definitely worth a look, but for shear concentration of riding ,the Valais is hard to beat.
