Tube Saturator Vintage is a free reissue of the original Tube Saturator. It uses circuit simulation technology to faithfully reproduce the sound of a dual triode preamp. While it sounds great, the circuit simulation technology is very CPU intensive, that’s why we developed its successor, Tube Saturator 2. Tube Saturator 2 is vastly more efficient, nearly identical in simulation accuracy, and adds other features. However, some users prefer the sound of the original and request it, hence we have released it as a free plug.
Here’s the original Tube Saturator description:
Tube Saturator is the world’s most accurate real time tube amp plug-in. Unlike other tube simulators, which use radically simplified models, Tube Saturator uses state of the art circuit simulation technology to capture every nuance of an analog circuit. With circuit simulation, the analog schematic (consisting of the individual resistors, capacitors, tubes, and so on) completely defines the signal processing. The schematic is converted into a system of non-linear differential equations which is solved at each sampling period, in realtime. That’s mathematical talk for “it sounds exactly like the analog circuit”.
Tube Saturator is in fact a basic circuit consisting of a Baxandall type three-band EQ feeding two 12AX7 triode preamp stages, similar to preamp stages you’d find in a guitar or high fidelity amp, and hence you can get the same distortion and tonal characteristics that you’d get from saturating a real tube preamp. The circuit simulation technology is extremely CPU intensive and a fast computer is recommended to run the plug-in.
Increasing the Drive control increases the (digital) input gain while decreasing the (digital) output gain, so you can easily adjust distortion levels. The FAT switch changes the bias circuit of the first preamp stage to increase gain and saturation.
Use Tube Saturator to add a bit of analog warmth to recordings, or increase the drive for some distortion. You can use it as a saturating peak limiter too.
Requires a host program that supports audio plug-ins.

RSP Tube Saturator was designed for adding tube warmth and compression to digital recordings. The unit has 2 12AX7 tubes. The unit is 2 channels, in a rackmount case. It has both XLR and line inputs/outputs. A great vintage device for adding warmth and smoothness to a digital recording. Excellent condition. Review at Sweetwater Sound, sweetwater.com For years, many audiophiles insisted that digital recordings were thin and brittle-sounding. In truth, they're simply more accurate than what we'd been accustomed to hearing. The added detail resulted in the perception of a thin, flat sound. So anyway (and this is where the story gets interesting), there are these really smart, creative guys at a little company called RSP Technologies. They got to thinking about this particular phenomenon and decided that the way to add warmth and body back to digital recordings was with a special processor that employed real vacuum tubes in its circuitry. So they went ahead and built one. And darned if it didn't indeed add that classic warmth to digital tracks. They were so inspired by their discovery that they decided to make this processor available to musicians and studio owners around the world. It's called (oddly enough) The Saturator, and it combines two 12AX7 tubes with RSP's proprietary circuitry to create the classic saturation curves of hot-level analog recording, while allowing the recordist to retain all the benefits (like high signal-to-noise ratio) of the squeaky-clean digital medium. Users of The Saturator can pinpoint the desired amount of saturation they want, from just a touch to the massive amounts typically found in the very best "needle-pinned" rock and roll. Inserted at the board between a digital multitrack and an R-DAT mastering deck, The Saturator combats the sterility often associated with mixing to digital. When inserted on a vocal or instrument, the Saturator imparts a unique tube-derived character that's not otherwise available from any other source. The Saturator is a dual channel, two rack space unit finished in anodized hot rod blue. The tubes and their associated circuitry are the focus of a minimal signal path constructed of only premium quality components, resulting in pure tube richness without excess noise or unwanted coloration. Large, precision analog VU meters are switchable between saturation and output. Ins and outs are via either XLR or 1/4" jacks. You can even watch the tubes "do their stuff" through front panel cooling ports.
