This seems like the stupidest question ever. But I can't stand it anymore. I need a bra that actually fits. I want to get professionally fitted, but I don't have a lot of time or money. Anyway, my bra has never really fit. I was raised by just my dad in a family of all boys, so I've never seriously shopped for bras in my life. I just went to the store, grabbed the size I thought fit me and went with it. I can't stand it anymore, I need a bra that fits. So, if you go somewhere like Walmart or Target or something like that, can you just try them on? Are you supposed to actually try them on or try them on over a tshirt? LOL. I feel like the stupidest 21 year old ever. I just need some help. I've never done this before. Thank you.
There isn't a Victoria Secrets anywhere nearby. And my aunts and cousins and I aren't close. And my mother hates me. And I know this question sounds really dumb, but I've just literally never done it before.
I became slightly desperate to find a bra that didn't irritate me when I got pregnant and they got gigantic. Which is like God's private little joke with my fiance who thinks it's awesome.

Do you have a victoria's secret near you? they give professional bra fittings for free you can then take your size from them and try on a lot of bras at other places.
As a start measure under your bra line this is your numerical size example 34a. Then measure around the fullest part of your bust line. the difference between the two is the size of cup that you are. For example if you are 36 inches below bustline and 38 inches at the fullest then you are most likely a B cup (2 inches difference). A bra should fit you under the bust and not show a fold. You should have full contact with under bust elastic all the way around, including between your breasts. The straps should stay on without sliding. You should fit in the cups without any overflow on the front. Buy bras that fit perfectly, do not make yourself fit one that is cute, but they didnot have your size. A good bra is undetectable under your clothes and does not need much adjustment throughout the day.
Yes you try them on, without your clothes. Keep in mind that you may have to try on many, many bras before you find one that fits. It is best to go to a store that has a fitting room attendant or bring a friend so they can go and fetch you alternate sizes and styles.
I am not sure how much you are prepared to spend, but a good bra is a good investment. I would be prepared to spend up to 40.00, but you may find ones that are far cheaper.

If you go to Victoria Secrets or some actual lingerie shops or departments you can have a free bra measurement from a person who knows what they are doing. You are not expected to buy anything but if you feel funny just getting the fitting then you can try on a few and pretend you didn't find any you like. And yes you are allowed to try bras on in the dressing rooms and no you don't have to do so over your shirt or anything like that. And don't feel stupid about this because lots of women wear the wrong bra size and don't even know it. My suggestion for you is to head to a local mall with a victoria secrets in it and have them help you with finding the right size and style you like and then take that knowledge to some where like Target and find one that might fit you budget better.
Edit: I see you have no victoria secret's around so try a mall intement apearel section for a bra fitting.
Most places will fit you for free. If you can't find a place to be fitted, just take what you think is your size and try it on. Don't wear your shirt underneath or you won't get an accurate fit.
Your bra should have no bunches or gathers in the cup, and the cups shouldn't cut into your bust giving you spill over (the dreaded quadraboob). The center should rest against your breast bone, and the back shouldn't ride up. Its not a bad idea to put your shirt on to see what the shape is like before you buy it. The band should be snug, but not pinchy. Since every brand of bra is a little different, I usually try on every bra I buy just to be sure. Good luck :)

Shopping with friends helps...and if that doesn't work, i think it's best to shop for bras yourself! That way, you won't feel embarrassed. Find a lingerie store at the mall like: La vie en rose, Victoria's Secret, La Senza, Jacob (lingerie) ect...
Or even Target/Walmart. Wherever they sell bras! Just grab a few that you think will fit and take them into the fitting rooms. Then wear them over the bra that you have on. Or over your t-shirt, whatever works for you!
If it fits, they shouldn't feel too loose or too tight. A, B, C or D is the CUP size. The number that goes after the letter is the band-width size. So if it's too snug then grab a bigger number. Take your time to try them on, or you'll regret buying an uncomfortable bra! Note that most undergarments are final-sale, meaning NO exchanges or refunds!
(So make sure you find the perfect pairs! LOL)

There should be a dressing room in the underwear section. You can try them on like you would wear them, not over clothes. That's why victoria's secret has dressing rooms. They'll fit you for free, and so will some department stores, like macy's. You don't even have to buy anything to get fitted, but you might want to so you don't feel weird. Look at this site if you want to measure yourself.
and remember you can def. try them on. I do all the time.
You can find instructions on the internet on how to measure yourself for a bra. All you'll need is measuring tape. Once you find out your size you can go to stores like target or walmart and try them on. You're supposed to try on a bra without the t-shirt on underneath. You can visit victoria's secret and they will fit you for a bra there and pick out a bunch of bras that other people of that size like. However, I've heard from many people that they don't size correctly so I wouldn't know.
I wouldn't go to those places.... try Victoria's Secret. They have $20 bras right now (semi-annual sale)!! Just ask for a fitting and get a few of your favorites.
EDIT: Since you don't have a VS, try a department store. Nordies and Saks have lingerie departments. The bras will be a bit more expensive (that's where I get all of mine, and they are usually at least $80), but they are great quality.
