Non-prescription health building tips will be presented at the Try This First events hosted every first and third Saturday starting Jan. 18 at First Presbyterian Church in Marietta.

Christiane Marshall is known among her Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Marietta community as the health nut of the group. They prompted her to create these events to share health tips with the community.

Local health practitioners will provide information backed by the most updated research in their field, Marshall said.

“I’d like to prevent some premature deaths and some disease by people being armed with the latest things they can do before they resort to prescription medications and surgery that has risks,” Marshall said.

The presentations will give community members the opportunity to get to know local health care professionals.

“We really need to have health practitioners to help guide us and we need to know who they are,” Marshall said.

The Seventh-day Adventist Church in 건마 Marietta worships at the First Presbyterian Church, which is also allowing them to use the space for the events.

“Normally, big Seventh-day Adventist churches have doctors and nurses in their own congregations who do health outreach. Here in Marietta, we don’t, so we reached out (and) are reaching out to local practitioners,” Marshall said.

Dr. David Norris will kick of the series this Saturday as he talks about how the food we eat affects inflammation in the body. Other potential topics for the program include diabetes type two, thyroid, heart health, cancer, Parkinson’s self care, Alzheimer’s, osteoarthritis, fitness, chiropractor and herbal medicine.

Other speakers will include an acupuncturist and a massage therapist with a background in physical therapy. The series is set to run through May but may be extended.

Lunch will be provided. Marshall is doing all the cooking and plans to stick to a menu approved by Norris to include foods that help prevent inflammation, Marshall said.

The whole community is invited to the First Presbyterian Church at 501 Fourth St. in Marietta on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.; anybody wishing to attend will need to register to account for the amount of food. Health practitioners can contact Marshall if interested in participating in the series.
