⏯️ Trump Account: where to get started?

US TAX CIS

In today’s post, we’ll discuss the practical steps: how and when to open a Trump Account (TA).

🏃‍➡️ How to open a Trump Account?

A Trump Account can be opened by a guardian, parent, adult sibling, or grandparent (in this order of priority).

To open the account, you must submit Form 4547 (Trump Account Election). There are two ways to submit:

• Along with the tax return (available during the 2025–2026 filing season),

• Through the online portal (launching in the summer of 2026).

✅ When opening an account with the government’s starting grant ($1,000), it is important that the child is considered a qualifying child (dependent) for the applicant in the year of the form submission. The applicant will be listed as responsible for the opened TA on Form 4547. With the government’s starting grant, the applicant will receive information to authorize and activate the TA (information will be sent starting in May 2026).

When can the first deposit be made?

The first contribution to the TA can be made no earlier than July 4, 2026.

🔜 In the next post about the TA, we will discuss the contribution rules in more detail.
