Born in 1986 in Marseille, Pierre Génisson is one of the best representatives of the French wind school. Winner of the prestigious Carl Nielsen International Competition, he won the 1st Prize and the Audience Prize at the Jacques Lancelot International Competition in Tokyo. His recordings published for Aparté records – Harmonia mundi have been widely awarded by international critics (Diapason d’or, Choc of the year by Classica, ffff by Télérama, “CD of the week” by the Sunday Times, Gramophone, Clef d’Or by Resmusica …)
Pierre Genisson trained at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris with Michel Arrignon for the clarinet, Claire Désert, Amy Flammer and Jean Sulem for chamber music. After two unanimous ‘First prize’ in these two disciplines, he went to perfect his skills at the University of Southern California Los Angeles with Pr. Yehuda Gilad where he obtained an‘Artist Diploma’.
Pierre Genisson is regularly invited to perform as a soloist with numerous orchestras such as the Deutsches Symphonie Orchester-Berlin, the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC orchestras, Odense Symphony Orchestra, Sichuan Symphony, Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, Jyvaskyla Symphony orchestra, Philharmonic Orchestra Royal de Liège, the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra… and collaborates in particular with conductors such as Krystof Urbansky, Olari Elts, Darell Ang, Sacha Goetzel, Krysztof Penderecki, Alexandre Bloch.. Fond of chamber music, Pierre Génisson multiplies musical encounters with many string quartets (Ebène, Modigliani, Jerusalem, Zemlinsky, Hermès, Voce, Van Kuijk …), and soloists Claire Désert, Franck Braley, Michel Dalberto , Natacha Kudritskaya, Florent Boffard, Renaud Capuçon, Alexander Sitkovetsky, Geneviève Laurenceau, Marc Bouchkov, Pierre Fouchenneret, Victor Julien Lafferière, François Salque, Les Solistes du Metropolitan Opera de New York, David Bismuth, Nicolas Dautricourt, Marielle Nordmann, Emmanuel Ceysson, Adrien Boisseau, François Dumont, Karine Deshayes, Delphine Haidan …
Pierre Genisson has a keen interest in musical creation and regularly collaborates with many composers such as Thierry Escaich, Karol Beffa, Philippe Hersant, Tristan Murail or even Eric Montalbetti …. He is dedicatee from the Clarinet Concerto by Eric Tanguy.
Active ambassador of the Buffet Crampon brand, Pierre is invited to give numerous masterclasses in Europe, Asia, USA, Canada, Mexico and he teaches at the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris. The Academy of Fine Arts of the Institut de France awarded him in 2018 the Interpretation Prize “Cino del Duca” and he is also a laureate of the Banque Populaire, Safran, and “Musique et Vin au Clos Vougeot” Foundations.
Pierre Genisson recorded a CD in tribute to Benny Goodman with the BBC Concert Orchestra (planned release 01-2020); we hear works by Copland, Bernstein, Stravinsky and Goodman. A concert with the same orchestra and the same program will be presented on March 7 at the Seine Musicale in Paris.

The trio is the smallest form that can cover the three elements of music. Charles Lloyd explains how perfect number “3” is, citing Pythagoras. The beautiful treble part of the guitar that snuggles up to the tone by an unaffected skilled manner, and the rounded bass that warmly wraps them. The harmony created by the trio is just like heavenly music. All the songs on ”Chapel” are songs that Lloyd has taken up in the past. On “Blood Count,” Lloyd’s tenor is somewhat lonely, as if he remembers and misses his past encounters. According to Stuart Nicholson, Lloyd has met Billy Strayhorn and Johnny Hodges at the Antibes Jazz Festival. Two old men are walking leisurely along the forest path where the morning mist can be seen. On the way, they meet their acquaintance and the three continue a quiet walk together. While listening to “Song My Lady Sings,” such an image downed to me. Nicholson wrote that Lloyd learned the close relationship between Bill Frisell and Thomas Morgan through their duo live recordings and suggested of their coming together to the concert. “Ay Amor” forms the pinnacle of this album. Following Lloyd’s emotional verse, Lloyd and Frisell alternately plays a beautiful melody line that is hard to describe. Sunrise and sunset go well with Lloyd’s music. Sunrise and sunset are reversed depending on how you see. Lloyd’s “Forest Flower,” which prevailed in the world, had the subtitle of “Sunrise” and “Sunset.” “Beyond Darkness” begins with a dull gray atmosphere. The scene that the trio draws here has something to do with the world of Japanese Noh. The sound of Lloyd’s alto flute has a minor taste that draws the listener’s attention. Morgan fills the background with a soft and reliable rhythm as the song unfolds. “Dorotea’s Studio” seems to be doing folk dance with all the members.Everyone enjoys dancing with an exhilarating rhythm. At the end of the song, Morgan is fully prepared to develop a superb bass solo. Although his bass is not flashy, the gentle tone that surrounds people is full of charm that attract listeners. According to Blue Note, “Chapel” is the first of a project by three different trios. I can’t wait for the rest of project to be released to see what music Lloyd brings us in another trio setting.

Fantastic album of some very mellow jazz tunes!! This is the first of three trio albums to be released by this magnificent musician... Can't wait to get the other two when they come out. Charles Lloyd is absolutely one of the best musicians alive today

1er volume de ses trios 2022, magnifique !












A 84 ans, Charles Lloyd est plus que jamais prolifique, pas question pour lui d'une quelconque retraite puisqu’en 2022 doivent sortir 3 CD enregistrés avec différents trios chez Blue Note! Pour Lloyd, pas de hasard, tout est réfléchi et toujours empreint de spiritualité voire de mysticisme: il nous explique dans les notes du livret que le 3 est depuis Pythagore le nombre de l’harmonie, de la sagesse et de la compréhension, le nombre du divin. Le trio est une des formes essentielles du jazz et qui ne laisse pas droit à l'erreur, la moindre approximation anéantissant le travail des 3 musiciens, quel que soit leur instrument. Et en voici le 1er volume, avec rien de moins que Bill Frisell à la guitare et Thomas Morgan à la basse. C’est magnifique, toujours mélodique et poétique, d’une finesse extrême, l’album m'a beaucoup touché et a été enregistré dans une chapelle de San Antonio au Texas, un lieu propice à la méditation et qui donne un son clair et profond. Un album constitué de 3 morceaux originaux de Lloyd et 2 reprises, une de Billy Strayhorn pour débuter, Blood Count, qui vous emmène immédiatement en voyage et Ay amor signée par le pianiste et chanteur cubain Ignacio Jacinto Villa Fernandez. Lloyd nous joue aussi de la flûte et il est aussi bouleversant qu’au sax alto ! Sa complémentarité avec ses 2 compagnons s’entend immédiatement, Frisell a fait partie de son groupe The Marvels depuis quelques années et amène ce son unique qui le caractérise. Ils nous rejouent Dorotea’s studio, un des joyaux de Voice in the night en 1999 (sans doute l’album que je préfère de Lloyd, enregistré avec le grand John Abercrombie), une pure merveille. Ce Trios Chapel est à recommander sans aucune hésitation. Le 2e volume est prévu pour août avec Anthony Wilson et Gerard Clayton. Le 3e, lui, doit sortir en octobre avec Zakir Hussain et Julian Lange. Tout ça est très très tentant et promet de fabuleux moments !

Música maravillosa, músicos extraordinarios y grabados a la perfección. No cabe duda que Lloyd ha encontrado su piedra filosofal. Frisell perfecto y. el bajista un placer. Música para tener y retener. Primero de tres discos que irán apareciendo en Blue Note poco a poco con otros músicos pertenecen formato trio. Todo un lujo

war dann die Kaufentscheidung gefallen, nachdem ich zuerst völlig gelangweilt auf spotify die Jazzneuerscheinungen durchhörte.Hängen geblieben bin ich wegen Bill Frisell, von dem ich noch nie enttäuscht wurde.Alte Jazzer sind in Kleinstbesetzungen oft Glückssache, vor allem, wenn sie ein Blasinstrument spielen.Die Luft.Man kennt das, wird man doch selbst auch nicht jünger. Was der alte Mann an Ressourcen hat, setzt er optimal ein.Manchmal ein wenig schräg.Ich mag die Platte wirklich gern, wiewohl sie eher nebenher läuft.

For more than 6 decades, saxophonist and composer Charles Lloyd has been a free spirit, master musician, and visionary. At 84, he remains as prolific as ever. Early on, Lloyd saw how placing the improvised solo in interesting contexts could provoke greater freedom and creativity. That vision is evident on his Trio of Trios project, which encompasses 3 albums in different trio settings. The first, Trios: Chapel, features guitarist Bill Frisell and bassist Thomas Morgan.
