Tranny swap is at a total stop. Need advice from a transmission guru.
I need to swap the drive yoke from the old to the replacement because the one on the replacement is a little beat up. Gouged and ovaled bolt hole.
Problem is old tranny has a 4 pin nut on it and replacement tranny has a 12 point nut on it.
Was going to buy the sockets for both (unless someone has these that will rent to me) but am confused on the sizes.
I think the 12 point is a 30MM (altough I have found 30mm and 29mm on line).
The 4 pin really has me confused. I can find a 4 pin for a 107 but it says it is for the differential drive pinion shaft flange nut. The other 4 pin lised says it is for transmissions K4C 025, W4B 025, K4A 040. Dont even know what car these trannies are in.

Other question I have is tranny model numbers. EPC says I have a 722.004 in my car. But this number is not on either transmission. How do you relate this number to the tranny?

So far I think I have destroyed about a billion brain cells on this.
Please help before i destroy the 100 I have left

The 12 point 30mm socket should be the proper one for the standard nut. For the special slotted nut, why not try to whack it off with a carefully placed chiesel ( instead of buying an expensive tool just for one use)? Once you get it started it should come off easily. I was able to do that on one or two of the ones I used for rebuilding.

The transmission number should appear in the middle of a long string that is located in the main casting just above the pan on the right side of the tranny. I t seems to me that yours should be a 722.1xx something, but the only way to know for sure is that stamped number.

Thanks for the replies gents, In keeping true with my motto "he who dies with the most tools wins" i went ahead and ordered both sockets. Thanks for the tip on the part number Roncallo and the offer to send yours.
rs899, attached is the number on the old tranny , is it the 01 in the middle of the number that makes it a 722.01?

Are there any numbers that are cut off in the picture to the right?

I think the critical numbers are off to the right..just starting to see the 722..

You are right, though, it should be a 722.0 as it's a 3 speed.

Thats the entire number. The last series there is the serial number and matches what is on the data card.
That is odd that the 1701 is not on that list. The new tranny number, 1301, is and it is a 722.004.
Is there any difference in a 722.001 and a 722.004?

There must be some difference, but most likely not enough to matter. Are the basic inputs/outputs the same ( bellcrank, modulator, mounting)? Might be in the valve bodies (which should be marked and can be swapped).

It must be internal because all connections are the same. I can see no difference between the 2 at all.

You might try PMing member "Army" who knows a lot about these older trannies ( he has a great stripdown of a 722.1 on PP) who might know the differences. He hangs out on the W123 forum here.

Both sockets arrived last week. Got the output yokes swapped and tranny is in the car. Gonna button everything up this coming weekend.
So if anyone is in need of a 4 pin socket for a differential seal or tranny seal changeout give me a holler. Will be glad to loan it out.

Also all the talk about the starter bolts being hard. Those were actuially easy on my car. They were hex bolts, not allen. Bought a set of wobble extensions and it made the job easy.....or should I say easier. Also with one on the end of about 4' of extensions it would hang the socket at the perfect angle to hit the top 4 tranny bolts.
