SIGAINT was a Tor hidden service offering secure email services. According to its FAQ page, its web interface used SquirrelMail which does not rely on JavaScript . Passwords couldn't be recovered. Users received two addresses per inbox: one at sigaint.org for receiving clearnet emails and the other at its .onion address only for receiving emails sent from other Tor-enabled email services. Free accounts had 50 MB of storage space and expired after one year of inactivity. Upgraded accounts had access to POP3 , IMAP , SMTP , larger size limits, full disk encryption , and never expired.

The service was recommended by various security specialists as a highly secure email service. [3] [4] [1]

In April 2015, a number of user accounts were compromised in what was speculated at the time to be a government-sponsored de-anonymization attack from 70 different exit nodes. [5] [6] A SIGAINT administrator said that the hidden service was not hacked but malicious exit nodes had modified their clearnet page so that its link to the hidden service pointed to an imposter hidden service, effectively tricking users with a phishing attack that harvested login credentials. [2] SIGAINT has since added SSL to their gateway to protect against such attacks. [7]

The service is currently down. Both its ".org" website and its onion link return error code 500. [8]

What are the most popular torrent sites at the beginning of 2022? As we continue a long-standing tradition, we see that The YTS is in the lead, closely followed by RARBG and The Pirate Bay. Overall, there are very few changes compared to last year.

YTS is taking over from The Pirate Bay as the most visited torrent site, despite the various legal issues that emerged over the past years.
The main YTS domain name draws millions of visitors per day even though it only lists movie torrents.
The yearly list of popular torrent sites is filled with well-known brands. This year there is one newcomer, Torrentdownloads. The site, which replaces Zooqle, is actually an old acquaintance that was last listed in 2019.
If we have to signal a clear trend, we would point out that there’s not much happening in the torrent ecosystem. Newcomers rarely break into the top ten.
We have limited the list to English-language torrent sites which means that sites such as Rutracker.org, Rutor.info, and Etoland.co.kr are not included, despite the fact that they have substantial traffic numbers.
Below is the full list of the top ten most-visited (unique) torrent sites at the start of the new year. The list is based on various traffic reports. Please note that this list is created to keep track of the popularity of these sites over time. We do not recommend or endorse using any of these sites . Some are known to link to malicious ads, at least incidentally.
Note: BitTorrent technology itself is not illegal but you can only use it to share content with permission from the rightsholder.
YTS.mx is the unofficial successor of the defunct YTS or YIFY group, which shut down a few years ago.
YTS has been the target of several lawsuits in the US over the past year, which led to quite a bit of controversy. The operator signed a consent judgment and agreed to hand over user data . As a result, several YTS users received settlement requests or were sued .
After more than 17 years, The Pirate Bay is still going strong. Despite more than a month of downtime in early 2020, the site has kept most of its audience.
The Pirate Bay continues to operate from its .org domain. The site’s registrations remain closed, however, and comments are still disabled.
1337x keeps its spot in the top three. Unlike some other sites, it has a loyal group of uploaders that provide fresh content on a daily basis.
1337x offers a wide variety of torrents. The site banned official YTS releases after the above-mentioned controversy.
RARBG has remained steady over the past year. The site operates from several popular domain names, but only the one with the most traffic is taken into account for this list. RARBG was founded in 2008 and specializes in high-quality video releases.
NYAA.si is a popular resurrection of the anime torrent site NYAA . While there is fierce competition from alternative pirate streaming sites, the torrent portal continues to do well, climbing one position compared to last year.
EZTV.re is a controversial TV-torrent distribution group that hijacked the EZTV brand from the original group, which was forced to shut down soon after.
The group often copies releases from other TV-torrent groups, which occasionally leads to embarrassing situations .
FitGirl Repacks is by no means a traditional torrent site. It is the home of a popular ‘girl’ who releases slimmed-down cracked versions of popular games, which keeps download times to a minimum.
FitGirl, who we interviewed in 2020, publishes torrents on other sites too but also offers magnet links of their own, which is why we included the site here.
LimeTorrents has been around for well over a decade. Like many other entries in this list, it is blocked by ISPs in countries around the world, which seems to hurt overall traffic somewhat.
TorrentGalaxy is a relatively new torrent site, which launched little over three years ago. The site has a dedicated group of uploaders and an active community. In addition to torrents, TorrentGalaxy also makes some releases available for streaming.
TorrentDownloads has been around for since 2007. The torrent site regained a spot in the top 10 this year after it was featured for the last time in 2019. It’s a no-nonsense index that hasn’t changed much in recent years.
