RON: A topless restaurant? ANDY: Tapas . You know. Small things on lots of plates. RON: Oh. TAH-PAHS. ANDY: Right. I was skeptical that I'd leave full. I always see tapas as an excuse to convince people they are eating a lot while exchanging plates in front of them several times. Usually you are living a lie but in this case we had a pretty ...
Topless Tapas [by Katy] July 13, 2004 [For three weeks, Josh and Katy blogsit] Sure, we made ourselves sick on birthday brunch all morning. But in the tradition of this blog, we geared ourselves up for another round of indulgent eating. We took off our shirts and drove to Eclipse di Luna, a tapas place in Buckhead. (Okay, we weren't REALLY topless .

Baked goat cheese, patatas bravas, sauteed mushrooms, beef dishes, chicken dishes, sausage dishes, pork loin, ceviche and shrimp, paella, desserts, Spanish coffee, sangria. I went home and took a nap after. Although I do eat meat the top 3 dishes I'd recommend at Solea are the baked goat cheese, the patas bravas and the sauteed mushrooms.
Typical Spanish tapas are dishes that include cheese, egg, meat, vegetable, seafood, relishes, such as olives and spicy peppers, and rice. Don't be fooled by their size - these bites may be small but are customarily packed with huge flavors, like paprika, curry, and garlic. Origin of Tapas

We had lunch today at Bravas with our son and his partner and thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the excellent service. We tried many dishes and all were excellent. Our server was very efficient and very helpful. Make sure to save room for the wonderful ice cream for dessert. We sat outside at our request and enjoyed the mild weather and the proximity to the bar. The music was also very pleasant in comparison to other places we have been. Just a small suggestion for people who sit outside and complain about the weather; the temperature in the back is just the same as it was when you walked in and if you don't want to sit outside: don't.
First we were met at the hostess desk with a, sorry, even though you have had reservations for a month, you will have to sit outside and freeze or wait thirty more minutes. We ended up sitting on the patio, but that set our night off to a bad start. There were such better ways to handle that. She could have said, I am so sorry, people are lingering tonight, why don't you enjoy a drink until we can seat you. How hard is that? The food seemed to all have the same seasonings. I was not impressed.
We celebrated our anniversary with dinner here. We started with the sparkling cava, then enjoyed tapas including the fresh anchovies, and the grilled bread with olives. For an entree, we had marvelous paella for two. Also enjoyed the red sangria, which was nice because it was not too sweet. Our waiter was excellent, very knowledgeable. (He also looks strangely like the SF Giant's Hunter Pence.) We would definitely go back. Next time I would eat inside, which has a fireplace and a little bit dressier atmosphere. The outside is patio dining and very casual. There's a bar in a separate building out back which is open to the patio, and it was very lively and fun. Very good food, a super find in Healdsburg. We are locals, and we noticed a lot of other local people eating here, too.
We stopped at this restaurant during a food tour of Healdsburg on a Sunday afternoon. The place was full of people enjoying drinks and tapas in a casual and fun environment. I enjoyed the tapas and sips of sherry. I would love to come back and hang out here again.
My wife and I have been to Bravas on multiple occasions, the first time with visitors from Italy, and most recently on National Drink Wine Day (February 18th). During our first visit, we ate outdoors in the shaded patio, and enjoyed the atmosphere there. If it is warm enough, then I certainly recommend that you reserve and request seating on the patio. If it is a bit chilly or rainy, then the smaller interior dining room will also provide comfortable surroundings for a meal. It is perhaps a bit easier to accommodate a large group outside, and to enjoy a wide range of dishes it is advantageous to have either a large group, or a very big appetite. Wines are offered by the glass, half bottle, and full bottle. Since for us this has been a break from wine tasting, I have not looked as carefully at the wine list as I usually would, but did note several Albariños were available, and I would then expect that other Spanish varietals would also be well represented. Through multiple visits, there have been several dishes that we have ordered repeatedly. One is the patatas bravas, fried potatoes with a rich and flavorful tomato sauce spiced with pimenton and topped with a dollop of aioli. We have also enjoyed the tortilla española, an “omelet” with thinly sliced potato and egg served at room temperature. Our Italian friends thought that these dishes were as well executed as at any place they had been to in Spain. We have also enjoyed the grilled calamari, a dish that requires careful timing so as to cook the calamari, but not excessively, at which point tender squid quickly transforms into something with the texture of golf balls. The house-made garlic and manchego sausage with mustard seeds was another well-liked dish. On our most recent visit we tried the scallops with leeks, and they were very nicely executed. Other dishes that we have enjoyed are the white anchovies, the duck meatballs, the roasted beets, and the tuna belly salad (even though the belly aspect was not obvious). The one dish that we both had mixed feelings about was the Brussels sprouts. There are vegetables that I enjoy with a bit of crunch, but Brussels sprouts are not on the list. When they are not fully cooked, there is a bitter off taste that comes from glucosinolates. I was amused to see that a neighboring table also did not finish their Brussels sprouts. Happy to see it was not just us, and perhaps a dish the restaurant might want to rethink. Four to five dishes is usually enough for a party of two, and at other tables three dishes appeared to suffice for two people. Depending on your appetite, the tab for a delicious lunch (without drinks) is likely to be in the $15-$25/person range. Full menu and wine list can be viewed in advance by following the links at: http://www.starkrestaurants.com/bravas.html#. I have always had a very pleasant experience at Bravas. It is a favorite stopping place when wine tasting in Sonoma, and one that I would look forward to visiting even when not wine tasting. Of the dishes that I have tried, most have been in the very good to excellent category, and only a few in the average to good category. As a pet peeve, I note that Bravas is one of a growing number of restaurants that do not provide salt and pepper on the tables. Since I don’t believe that any restaurant can accurately predict the salt and pepper preferences of all of their guests, I find this a most annoying trend. Perhaps for my next visit I will show up with a container of grey salt and my own pepper grinder, and see if they notice. The service has always been outstanding, even when the dining room has been full. Despite the Brussels sprouts and the salt and pepper absence, Bravas is still an excellent restaurant that merits a five-star rating, and one that I highly recommend.
