ACTOR Tommy Kirk passed away on September 28, 2021.
Tommy Kirk, 79, was an American actor.
He starred in various films throughout his career such as The Shaggy Dog, Swiss Family Robinson, The Misadventures of Merlin Jones, and beach-party productions from the mid-1960s.
He was discovered in 1954 as a 13-year-old while performing for the play Ah, Wilderness! at the Pasadena Playhouse.
After a talent agent saw him in the play, he was signed and cast in an episode of TV Reader's Digest.
He was also cast in The Mickey Mouse Club.
According to TMZ, Kirk’s neighbor found him dead in his Las Vegas home around 8pm on Tuesday, September 28.
It is unclear what his cause of death was but no foul play is suspected.
Fans of the late actor were shocked to find out he had passed and took to Twitter to honor his life.
One user wrote: "So sad to hear Tommy Kirk has passed, who was an indispensable part of so many films of my youth: OLD YELLER, THE SHAGGY DOG, SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON, THE ABSENT-MINDED PROFESSOR and more. A great unsung actor. RIP."
Another added: "I loved him in all those old Disney movies. Rip"
A third said: "As you know he was a very big part of my growing up. We lived vicariously through him and his adventures (or misadventures) in the Disney movies of that time.
"I hope he knew how much he meant to a generation of kids that he brought so much joy to and that loved what he did."
Kirk remained unmarried throughout his life.
Despite being viewed as one of Disney's favorite kid actors, it was previously reported that the company fired him over being gay in 1964 when he was 21-years-old.
According to TMZ, Kirk once said: "When I was about 17 or 18 years old, I finally admitted to myself that I wasn’t going to change. I didn’t know what the consequences would be, but I had the definite feeling that it was going to wreck my Disney career and maybe my whole acting career. It was all going to come to an end."
The child star added: "Eventually, I became involved with somebody and I was fired."
Kirk was estimated to be worth $500,000, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
He was reportedly broke after his acting career ended and worked at a carpet cleaning business in Los Angeles.
