I went with the XXL because I wanted a high waisted and roomie fit for when I sleep and it fit perfectly and no leaks!
i am of "average" size tending toward thicker stronger legs so this surprised me that they fit so well.
Originally, I purchased six pairs, which only lasted me for about 4-5 hours following the birth.
Color:

First, I want to discuss the size because that was the first thing I looked up when researching the comments. I am 5'3, 220 pounds, kinda-apple shaped body, full robust backside, and thick thighs. I have the typical mom post-c-section pouch. I usually wear size large in most VS undies and wear size 16 pants. I purchased the 2XL based on reading comments, the size chart, and a hail-Mary guess. The 2XL fits me PERFECTLY. The thigh holes were adequate for my size. These are NOT hot sexy mama undies. These are full, protective, non-hot sexy mama undies. Do NOT get these to impress anyone but yourself! I did not experience the alleged "swish" sound of the material, and I wonder if it is because I am wearing a size that hugs me fully, fits completely, and there are no gaps. There IS a "swish" material inside but I only heard it when I took it out of the package and only because I expected it. I am a high school teacher and TRUST me, if there was a sound, my kids would let me know! No swishing for me when walking. I use a menstrual cup and bought these as a back-up because I am trying new brands of cups and am anticipating leaks. I wore them this past week in anticipation of an unexpected rosy start. I was napping on my couch, crumpled over in crampy pain, no cup, and my rosy nemesis decided to visit during this vulnerable moment. I woke up to THAT FEELING (you know THAT feeling) of "so it has begun". I walked slow and miserably to the bathroom to investigate the damage and WOW, it contained everything and then some! And it was not recent, apparently my rosy nemesis had been busy during my nap. I am impressed at how well these stood up despite being advertised as a back-up. I wash them separately with my reusable pads, cold water, and hang dry. Overall I am happy with the purchase. I bought the dark colors because I prefer dark during this time of unhappiness. My only wish is that they were a 5-pack. I look forward to purchasing another pack in the future.

I just have to say that I love this underwear! I'm not skinny at all and I honestly feel like these "comfort" my mom bod. They are so comfortable to me and give me the protection I need. I'm so tired of doubling panty liners in my normal underwear every day. I had urethra surgery when I was 18 or 19 and ever since... as soon as I feel I have to pee... I better find a bathroom quick. Can't blame it on my son who was 11 pounds he came out c-section. Also I don't regularly have periods so I like that extra protection for if that might randomly show up. I just used them for the first time for a period and I didn't use anything else with them. No leaks, no feeling wet or gross. I hate tampons, hated the cup, don't like super bulky pads that don't work well anyway (like when you lye down and blood goes up your buttcrack and is all over your sheets in the morning) It was an awesome period. It's funny to feel comforted by underwear... But they truly make me feel good. One less thing I have to stress about. Not sure how much they can hold but they fulfill my need and I'm so happy to have them. Highly highly recommend them!

I was very “ehh” about the idea of period underwear. Not a huge fan of the “free bleeding” movement (no judgement if you are, I’m just not a fan) BUT I have white bedsheets, and I love my white bedsheets. So I ordered these, just to see.. and I gotta say, I’m pleasantly impressed. I never wear it as a pad (although one time I did forget to put a tampon in, and by accident wore them just as a pad for a few hours- and it worked PERFECTLY) I just like them for a backup protection! awesome for unreliable periods (you know, “is aunt coming today? Next week? Next month? Was that a cramp? Gas? No, maybe my period?”) so you never ruin a good pair of pants. Awesome for bedtime, especially for a heavy flow And awesome for a backup, incase you don’t have easy access to a bathroom (I’m thinking teachers, doctors, nurses, and a million other jobs that you can’t just be like “gotta run change my tampon!”) And I can only wish I had these bad boys postpartum!!!!! Are they sexy? Heck no! My great grandma would be embarrassed to wear these giant underpants- but hey- I’m the only one seeing my underwear at this time of the month anyways, and they are very comfortable and soft! The “pad” part is very thin, so it’s much more comfortable than an actual pad would be. 10/10 highly recommended

These are not my first period panties. While I do not dislike the ones I already have, I did have something to compare them too. (I have never had any that are meant to be used without other products.) The reason I chose to order these to add to my period panty collection was the waist band. Everything is uncomfortable during that time of the month and the thicker waist band makes it much more comfortable especially sleeping on nights when cramps are raging. Another thing I liked better about them is the absorbency. The other set I have, I notice the wetness when I pull them up after using the bathroom. It is not near as noticeable with these. I normally wear my period panties with a cup, but during my first period of wearing these, I did not. Only on my heaviest day did I feel the need to change it during the day. (I change it before bed and wear a different pair to bed. Pro Tip: Order a size bigger. Not because they run small, but because between bloating, cramps and painful hip joints having them a bit looser than normal undies is a blessing. Also, anyone new to period panties they are great to wear when your period could be starting any day. I sometimes wear them a day or two before it starts and that way I am ready to go...just in case.

Bad idea to have a grey liner

I shouldn't have gotten these as period underwear because the grey will immediately stain.. bad idea. They are very absorbant too.. almost too much though and then they stay wet. It's uncomfortable

7-Period-Underwear-Brands-to-Try-Instead-of-Tampons-and-Pads-GettyImages-1187626301

Take a moment to think about how many tampons and pads you've gone through in your life. You probably can't even wrap your mind around the amount of disposable period products you've bought, used, and tossed in the trash since your teens. Women spend an average of $1,773 per year on tampons alone, according to Pandida Health .
Not only are they costly (and add up over decades of use), but they're also not kind to the environment. In the United States alone, around 12 billion pads and seven billion tampons are thrown out every year; combined with their packaging and wrapping, they generate more than 200,000 metric tons of waste, according to AllMatters . Oh, and plastic and non-compostable materials can take 500 to 800 years to decompose, Eco Femme reports . (Related: 11 Sustainable Activewear Brands Worth Breaking a Sweat In )
So, if there was a long term alternative that cost less, was more sustainable, and still got the job done, would you jump on it? Luckily, such a solution exists: period underwear.
Just like tampons and pads, period underwear absorbs blood while you're menstruating . However, unlike sticking a tampon up your vagina — and remembering to change it before the eight-hour mark or worrying about toxic shock syndrome — or wearing a restrictive pad, which can feel like a glorified diaper, period panties are as comfortable as the regular underwear you wear every day.
"You put period underwear on and go about your day; machine wash, air dry, and repeat," Senior Director of Customer Experience at Thinx , Alice Warren, tells Shape . "Most people can put them on in the morning for all day wear without worrying about stopping to change a pad or tampon." Conveniently, many brands offer a range of styles from thongs to briefs, so you don't have to sacrifice your preferred panties fit either. (Psst, period-friendly activewear exists, too.)
So, how exactly do period panties work? "Inside the underwear gusset [that pocket in the crotch] are layers that wick moisture, control odor, absorb your flow, and prevent leaks," Warren explains. "They have a patented design and period-absorbing technology that absorbs your period, all the while keeping you dry and odor-free — so you don't have to worry about feeling wet."
Plus, unlike tampons and pads, which are immediately thrown away after use, most period panties can be reworn for several years, which cuts back on waste. "There are seven billion tampons thrown out each year, most of which have applicators," Warren says. "Switching to [period underwear] helps eliminate the amount of period waste that goes into the oceans and landfills."
Also, some period underwear brands like Rael and Period are made with sustainable materials that eliminate waste entirely. So, period panties are better for the environment , better for your wallet, and just as effective. (Related: Thinx Launched the First FDA-Cleared Reusable Tampon Applicator )

Thinx is one of the most popular period underwear brands, and it's also available at Nordstrom . Warren explains exactly what makes them special: "Thinx offers five absorbency levels [lightest, light, moderate, heavy, super], with the super absorbency holding up to five regular tampons' worth," she says. "Since our undies are measured by absorbency, we recommend completing our Know Your Flow Quiz to see which undies will work best for you for all-day wear."
Along with a variety of absorbency levels, Thinx period underwear comes in a range of styles including hiphugger, boyshort, cheeky, high-waist, french cut, and thong. What's more, the company also has a line for teens and tweens called Thinx (BTWN).
Thousands of reviewers rave about the period underwear, claiming zero odor or mess. "I was skeptical going into this but this is an AMAZING product," one shopper wrote about the hiphugger . "No leakage and no smell. It is SO comfortable and I just can't believe that I didn't do this sooner. Never going back to pads ever again."
Not only do women turn to Knix underwear as a solution while on their period, but new moms opt for the absorbent alternative postpartum, too. Knix period panties include a triple layer technology that holds anywhere from
