Life is unpredictable and we should always be ready to face every twist and turn. But the COVID-19 pandemic this has brought us the twist we could never imagine. From grocery shopping and daily work to way to meet and greet people, everything has changed. While this extended quarantine has been stressing us all out, students especially graduate pass outs are under a lot of pressure right now. You even must have pursued integrated courses after 12th. But what about starting a career?

So while you are focusing on basic survival during this pandemic time, here are the tips to help start your career with confidence post-crisis.

1. Understand your interest and passion

Every one of us enters the competitive world with certain goals in mind. Whether it’s to get good paychecks, a certain job status, or even to influence and inspire people, knowing what drives at the start will steer your decision of choosing the right path. So analyze and examine interest and passion, and own it.

2. Analyze what you are feeling about your current job

The COVID-19 pandemic has been the eye-opening time for many of us. So make good use of this time and analyze how you like your current job. Even if after passing out from the best B Tech University and getting a high-salaried job, know how you are feeling about your current job. Are you frustrated with working from home or you like it more? Do you miss the affinity of your office? What else?

3. Identify “stretch” roles and expand your skills

Think about your dream role. If you get a chance to design your ideal role, what would it be? Once you find your ideal role, the next thing is your skill sets. What skill sets or training can help you reach the next goal? Now that you have time find out the ways like online courses and webinars to fill your skill gaps.

4. Plan your next career phase

Where do you see yourself in 3 years? Has the crisis changed your career plans? What else more do you need to reach that goal? Financial planning, more training, or revising your resume, think about what you need to do and go according to your career plans.

5. Listen to self-talk

You might not have gotten this advice but this is important. As we are spending more time try to notice your thoughts. Be mindful of what you are telling yourself about your skills, abilities, and limits. It’s what we tell ourselves drives our actions and choices. So be your best friend.

During an economic slowdown, thinking about what you can control and what must be improved is important. Have your next career plan ready and reach out to your network. Lay the groundwork now so that you have doors open to new opportunities when the crisis is over.
