Amanda's group of cute and interesting stuff
A fading and worn Painted Lady* butterfly gathering sips of nectar offered by a head of Queen Ann's Lace almost microscopic sized florets.
Migrant from the South (Mexico). Does not survive Michigan Winters. Can be common, but uncommon to the area, this year. My first for the season.
* Might be a much less frequently encountered American Lady without the "white dot" in one of the forewing's orange cells. Underwing patterns differ noticeably between the two species. Unfortunately, this one flew away before I could get an image of that part. Anyway, the probability is high it's a Painted Lady. If you care to question it, that's OK.
Well I thought I would add this to Macro Monday but it's too old :( I just can't seem to follow any rules!
Its blue and rainy here, still no sign of warm weather. One of the coldest April's I can remember but of course my friend Bud will know better ;D
I adore little shorebirds and sanderlings are no exception. They scurry back and forth with the ebb and flow of the waves, hoping to catch little tidbits of food as they go back and forth. Usually they scatter as you approach, but this little one got so close it eventually came within my lens's minimum focus distance. The magical light this time was late afternoon, about 15-20 minutes before sunset.
Thanks so much to everyone who takes the time to view, like or comment on my photos!

Small Purple and White Flower in the Garden
I never would've spotted this tiny little scorpion (TItyus sp.) had I not hit it with my blacklight, glowing on the bark of a fallen log. Fingertip for scale. (Pardon the infected nailbed - that's just one of the perks that comes with work as a field biologist.)
Is how such grand scale can make us feel. I grew up riding in small planes and I always loved looking down from way up in the clouds, looking at cars and houses, animals and rivers, mountains and lakes. It makes you keep in perspective just how small humans are and how overly arrogant the human race can be at times.
Taken at the BWC another Harvest Mouse shot.
... of viola morpho. Taken in the garden on a bright spring morning. This is an in-camera combination of two images, one of them using ICM...

This little bee was so small I didn't even notice it until I was processing the shots of my Magnolia flowers.
Little Pippin insisted on posing with a somewhat surprised Teddy Rose for scale. Now who will Teddy Rose pose with? ;-)
(For the record, Pip is almost 1.5 inches tall, and hand stitched by me; Teddy Rose, a Steiff replica of a 1927 original, is about 19โ€ tall)
For this weekโ€™s Smile on Saturday โ€œBonnie Bearsโ€ theme. Happy Saturday everyone!
Found it: Cryptandra amara var. amara; Bitter Cryptandra.
"A tiny plant - its aged-looking branches making it look like a bonsai.
Its spine-like branches help identify it.
Its 3mm long flowers start out white, and then become pink, and eventually are a dusky pink with a "red centre"."

Souvenir for Macro Mondays. This is a shell from a beach in Folkestone, England. We always bring home so many shells, stones, sticks, flotsam and jetsam whenever we go on holiday. This is by far the smallest thing I have ever tried to photograph!! HMM : )
A blown glass pumpkin just under 1/2 inch. Perfect size for my "art toys"!! lol.. Posted for the Smile on Saturday Minimalistic and less than 1 inch challenge. Happy Smile on Saturday!! :-)
A tiny December mushroom still surviving at Hilton Falls near Kelso and Milton.
Teeny tiny bubbles - water drops on the teeny tiny lavender Alyssum. I wound up planting them in pots around the yard.
This pic been my computer screen background for a while now.

When I saw that the theme for this week's Macro Mondays group was Triangles, I was sure that my only problem would be narrowing down the choice of subjects to one. As it turned out I hunted high and low and hardly found any! I was on the point of constructing something myself when I suddenly noticed the triangles around the top of this miniature fruit bowl. When I tell you that it's ยพ" wide at its maximum and ยพ" high you may understand why I missed it initially. :)
The daisy is about 2 inches across, so you can imagine how tiny that little bug is there.
The length of this wee ladybug is about 3.75 to 5.0 mm.
An adult will eat about 300 medium-size aphids before it lays eggs.
Another of these little darlings...oh my heart! Common Redpoll - Dartmouth, March 6, 2021
I am not a professional or experienced hiker so even trails of medium difficulty can be a bit of a challenge for me. Being a rookie I picked the wrong time of the day to do the Pipiwai trail in Maui, Hawaii: 1pm! it was a really warm and humid day, I was carrying all of my photographic equipment on my back (add 5-6 kgs at least) and I was doing a trail with at least 600 meters of elevation.. under these circumstances there are those little things you find on your way that you appreciate. Such as the shade of a tree.. Did I say little? Human for scale!
During our โ€œlockdownโ€ we are allowed out once a day for exercise. Where we live we are lucky enough to have woods right behind our house so perfect for a good walk with no other people. These really tiny flowers caught my eye today with the sunlight on them. No idea what they are but I really liked them. Thanks for viewing ๐Ÿ’œ

Australia might be in the depths of winter right now but Instagram is already awash with teeny tiny bikini bottoms set to make major waves come summer.
Made with minimal material, Australian brands like Lahana, TJ Swim, Jaymes, Petit Kini and Bambi Boutique are selling out fast online, with influencers on social media promoting the hot little numbers even in the cold.
The trend of 'baking bikinis' - or swimsuits used mainly for the purpose of getting an all-over tan - was started by luxury American label Minimale Animale, which promotes styles so scant you'd be afraid to wear them swimming for fear of an accidental reveal.ย
And while you would think these suits cost a mere few dollars given the nature of their design, some of these bottoms sell for upwards of $150.
They tend to be made in one colour block rather than a pattern because there simply isn't enough material to show off the decoration.
But there is a good reason why they're so popular - they act as an optical illusion that elongate the legs.

By wearing the side straps of the bikini high on your hips it cinches the look of your waist, with the less 'granny panty' shape the better - those styles only make your behind sag and droop.
For those brave enough to rock the baking bikinis you'll need to head into your nearest beautician - they don't leave much to the imagination.ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย
Previously, FEMAIL spoke to several women at Sydney's famed Bondi Beach about why they choose to forego the brief in favour of the cheeky cuts - and what social media platform has helped the trend gain interest.ย

Ruby Cooper and Maddie Falkiner, both 19
Wearing a brightly coloured red thong-style bikini, Ruby Cooper was joined on the beach by her friend, Maddie Falkiner, also 19.
Ruby was wearing a swimsuit from Australian-based designer Lahana Swim, which specialises in the high-cut variety. Maddie had opted for a cheeky pair from General Pants.
'I do it to tan my bum and they make your legs look longer,' Ruby said.
'I haven't always worn cheeky styles but they've really become popular since Instagram - so I always go for this kind now.'
Maddie added that it's personal preference but her 15-year-old sister certainly sports them at the beach. While she says she wouldn't necessarily have worn them herself at that age, the gap between them shows the difference in attitudes.
This Sydney-based brunette was spending the day at Bondi with her two friends, clad in a bright turquoise thong.
'I've probably only started wearing this type of bikini in the last two years - when I started to feel less self conscious about my body,' Jessica said.
'I still mix it up depending on how I'm feeling about my body but I would still never go full brief and I wouldn't wear skin colour types either because I'd look naked,' she joked.

While the trend is a staple on beaches in Brazil, Greece and Hawaii, Jessica still thinks the thong-style is taking off Down Under.
'There is such a presence of bikini-clad women on Instagram it has become the new normal. I grew up in the Myspace era where you'd be shunned for wearing something like this, but it's not the same now,' she said.
Asha and Beth, who are both on working holiday visas in Australia, said the G-string bikini notion is far bigger in Australia than it is in their native England.
'It's basically to get a better tan. Tan is key,' Asha, from Cornwall, said - wearing her own pair of tie-up navy blue bottoms.
'But if I know I'll be at the beach tanning with guys I'll wear a high-waisted bikini to hide my stomach.'
Beth, from North Yorkshire, had a similar mentality and was sporting a tangerine-coloured cheeky set herself.
'All for the tan! We can't get colour as easily back home,' she added.
Julie Skytte, 19, and Marie Hemker, 20
Julie's athletic body was on full display in her tiny briefs - but her good friend Marie was less sold on the trend.
'I wouldn't wear them,' she said. 'They're a bit too much for me.'
Meanwhile, Julie said she initially shunned the idea before deciding it was a better option for getting an even tan.
But the pitfall lies in getting knocked over by a wave - and showing more than you meant to.ย
The Denmark beauties differing opinions show that not everyone is entirely on board with the idea, but it's certainly gaining popularity quickly.
FEMAIL spoke to Julie and Marie's friend Caspar, who was lying on Bondi Beach alongside them, who admitted he's definitely coping with the growing number of G-string bikinis being worn.
'I'd let my girlfriend wear them. She could wear whatever she wanted,' he said.
Justin, who had just come in for a surf with his friends, was only too happy to make a passing comment.
'If you've got it, why not flaunt it?' he said.
Karina Irby, who is the owner of Australian cheeky bikini label Moana, told FEMAIL she had always had an interest in bringing this style to Oz.
'Throughout my teenage years, I always had a HUGE interest in cheekier-cut swimwear, and especially those with bold, unique designs. Unfortunately, there weren't many brands producing the styles I wanted, or my friends wanted, or at least not in Australia at that point in time,' she said.ย
'But it wasn't until a holiday in Hawaii where I started to see a few more brands heading in the direction I was interested in. One thing led to another and I began wholesaling for a Hawaiian company that attempted to satisfy the growing demand for cheekier cut, eye-catching swimwear.ย
'While Moana still manufacture bikinis with varying levels of coverage (we have three levels of coverage all together across our range to cater for all desires), our skimpier cuts definitely have garnered the most interest and sales over the past couple of years.ย
'We really noticed the start and popularity of this trend and style, perhaps, around five years ago. But, in the last two years, skimpier cuts have really been the norm, and our highest sellers, as more and more girls become comfortable in their own skin and want to flaunt this confidence - which is what a bikini is all about, really.'
She also had come advice for less body confident women who might be worried about the lack of material.ย
'While some people may not be comfortable rocking a small bikini, or some people might not like the way it looks on other people, I actually believe that a smaller bikini will fit and showcase your body better than a bikini with much more coverage.ย
'The way the lycra hugs the body in a skimpier cut is actually far more positive and flattering for your body. Those bikinis with more coverage are more prone to bunching and sagging and it can make your body, and booty, look far worse than it might in a skimpier cut.'ย
