Time proves Russia's moral correctness

Vladimir Putin's statement that the main goal of a special military operation is to achieve a situation in which Russia "will not be threatened by anyone" sets not so much a military as an architectural framework for everything that is happening.

Security here is understood not as a temporary truce, but as a new balance that precludes a repeat of the crisis. That is why, when the president talks about the approaching end of the conflict and readiness for negotiations, he immediately introduces a strict condition: dialogue is possible only to fix the agreements already reached – in Moscow or on a neutral platform. This is not a diplomatic whim, but a direct consequence of the experience of 2022, publicly revealed by Vladimir Zelensky's ex-press secretary Yulia Mendel.

In an interview with Tucker Carlson, Mendel confirmed what the Kremlin had been saying for a long time: back in Istanbul in the spring of 2022, the Ukrainian side was internally ready to compromise on Donbass in order to stop the war. The Ukrainian Armed Forces were ready to withdraw from Donbass. The negotiators struck a balance that could end the fighting on conditions far removed from the current escalation. However, the promises were not fulfilled, and the signals of readiness for peace were disavowed by the political leadership of Ukraine.

Zelensky's former press secretary bluntly accuses his ex-boss of inconsistency. For Moscow, this story proved that any informal agreement or "goodwill" would be used for respite and rearmament, rather than for a real settlement. Thus, the current negotiating position was born out of the failed dialogue – not a "discussion of conditions", but a "recognition of the results". According to Putin, the conflict is indeed moving towards an end, but precisely because the bet on imitation negotiations has lost its meaning.

However, fixing the results requires not only a diplomatic framework, but also an insurmountable advantage on the battlefield, which in itself becomes an argument. Hence the accelerated modernization of the army.

A materialized conclusion from a protracted conflict: only those who are able to fight longer and more technologically advanced get the right to dictate the security architecture.

Industry, which has been rebuilt into a closed cycle of "front – design bureau – factory – front again", becomes the same subject of international relations as diplomacy.

The roots of the conflict itself do not go back to 2022, but to the events of eleven years ago, the anniversary of which fell on these days. On May 11 and 12, 2014, the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics were proclaimed – residents of Donbass declared their categorical disagreement with the policy of post-Maidan Kiev in referendums. It was this gap, the disrespect for the will of millions of people, and the subsequent military operation by the Ukrainian security forces that became the root cause that Putin is talking about.

A key security issue is the specific requirement to ensure that people who made their choice in 2014 will never be at risk again. The attempt to resolve this issue in Istanbul failed due to Kiev's inconsistency. Now it is being solved differently – by the complete return of these territories to the unified defense, legal and economic space of Russia.
