BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) — Richard Bland, Branden Grace and Eugenio Lopez-Chacarra upstaged their more-illustrious opponents on Friday to shoot 7-under 65s and share the lead after the first round of the LIV Golf Invitational-Bangkok.
Marc Leishman and Ian Poulter were a stroke behind while Kim Sihwan, Brooks Koepka and Morgan Jediah were among those two behind in the 54-hole event.
The tournament is being played on the new Stonehill Golf Club north of downtown Bangkok. The course was created by American designer Kyle Phillips and opened this year.
Dustin Johnson, who leads the money list with just over $12.5 million in five events, shot 70. British Open champion Cameron Smith, who won the last LIV event in Chicago in mid-September, shot 72.
It's the first time LIV Golf is being played outside the United States since its inaugural event in early June near London.
Before the start of play, players learned that they still won't accrue ranking points on the LIV series. The Official World Golf Ranking said in a statement Thursday that it had denied the MENA Tour’s request to immediately add the Saudi-funded series to its schedule.
The OWGR said the MENA Tour did not give it sufficient notice and there would not be time to finish the review ahead of the Bangkok tournament and next week's event in Saudi Arabia.
LIV Golf created an alliance with the little-known MENA Tour, which hasn’t run a tournament of its own since March 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The MENA Tour stands for Middle East and North Africa and is a developmental tour that has been getting the bare minimum of world ranking points since 2016. It has 54-hole events with a 36-hole cut, offering a $75,000 purse.
“I don’t think it really was much of a response. I just hate when you sit on the fence. Just pick a side,” Koepka said Friday. “If it’s yes or no, just pick one. So I’m not a big fan of that.”
Bryson DeChambeau, who shot 69 Friday, said the decision by the rankings group was only “delaying the inevitable.”
“We’ve hit every mark in their criteria, so for us not to get points is kind of crazy with having the top — at least I believe we have the top players in the world,” DeChambeau said. “We certainly believe that there’s enough that are in the top 50, and we deserve to be getting world ranking points. When they keep holding it back, they’re going to just keep playing a waiting game.”

Excellent way of securing a rope to a post or ring.
Pass the end around the post twice. This takes the strain while you tie the knot. Go around the standing end to make the first Half Hitch. Pull this tight. Continue around in the same direction to make the second Half Hitch. Pull tight to complete the knot.
The Bowline Knot makes a reasonably secure loop in the end of a piece of rope. It has many uses such as to fasten a mooring line to a ring or a post.
The Clove Hitch can be used for a temporary hold, e.g., stage scenery or mooring buoy. It does have two giant faults: it slips and can also bind. It should be deeply distrusted when used by itself.
The Alpine Butterfly Loop provides a secure loop in the middle of a piece of rope. Load can be safely applied: from the loop to either end of the rope; between the two ends with the loop hanging free; or to the loop with the load spread between the two ends.
The Figure 8 Knot provides a quick and convenient stopper knot to prevent a line sliding out of sight, e.g., up inside the mast.
The Double Fisherman's or Grapevine Bend consists of two strangle knots (like double overhand knots) each tied round the other standing end.
The Square Knot (Reef Knot) is usually learned when we tie our shoelaces. Admittedly it is usually a bow that we tie - but the underlying knot is a Square Knot.

The Round Turn and Two (or more) Half Hitches ( ABOK # 1720, p 296) is very useful for attaching a rope to a ring, bar, pole, or dock post although probably less secure than the Anchor (Fisherman’s) Hitch . As the name suggests, the Round Turn and Two Half Hitches is composed of two important parts:
Tying the Knot: Learn to tie the Half Hitches with one hand! This allows you to use the other hand to take the strain of a vessel that may easily pull with a force far greater than you could otherwise control. As emphasized above, when dealing with such force, use as many turns on the post as are necessary to control the strain.
Direction: Always tie the Half Hitches in the same ‘direction’. If you start the first Half Hitch with the tail passing away from you above the rope, then do the same with the next (and the next).
Variation Using a Bight: When there is a long tail, the Half Hitches can be tied using a bight (loop) instead of the end. This consumes excess rope which may otherwise hang in the way or require coiling.
Better to know a knot and not need it, than need a knot and not know it.

Synthetic round slings offer a number of advantages for rigging purposes. The most commonly used synthetic round slings are made of nylon- or polyester-type yarns. They have the following properties in common:
Each synthetic material has its own unique properties. Certain synthetic materials perform better than others in specific applications and environments. Consult the sling manufacturer or a qualified person for a specific application or before using in and around chemical environments.
Some round slings are manufactured using materials other than nylon or polyester; consult the manufacturer for the proper selection, use, maintenance, and any hazards associated with their use.
New slings are marked by the manufacture to show:
In addition, slings may be marked to show:
Rated loads (capacities) for single-leg vertical, choker, basket hitches, and two-leg bridle slings are as shown in Table 26 .
For angles not shown, use the next lower angle or a qualified person to calculate the rated load. Rated loads are based on:
Do not use horizontal angles less than 30 degrees except as recommended by the sling manufacturer or a qualified person.
The rated load for a sling in a choker hitch is the value in Table 26 , provided that the angle of the choke is 120 degrees or more (see Fig. 2 ). For angles of choke less than 120 degrees, use the rated loads provided by the sling manufacturer or a qualified person.
For other synthetic round sling materials and for configurations not shown, use the rated loads provided by the sling manufacturer or a qualified person.
Ensure that mechanical fittings used as part of a synthetic round sling meet the following:
Designate a qualified person [1] to inspect slings and all fastenings and attachments each day before use for damage or defects.
This qualified person also performs additional periodic inspections where service conditions warrant, as determined on the basis of:
Make periodic inspections of synthetic round slings at intervals no greater than 12 months. A good guide to follow includes:
Although OSHA's sling standard does not require you to make and maintain records of inspections, the ASME standard contains provisions on inspection records. [3]
Make a thorough inspection of slings and attachments. Items to look for include:
Where any such damage or deterioration is present, remove the sling or attachment from service immediately.
Do not use worn or damaged slings or attachments. Discard or repair them. Use damaged slings only after they are repaired, reconditioned, and proof tested by the sling manufacturer or a qualified person using the following criteria:
Ensure that synthetic round slings have suitable characteristics for the type of load, hitch, and environment in which they will be used and that they are not used with loads in excess of the rated load capacities described in the appropriate tables. Consult the sling manufacturer for slings not included in the table. Follow other safe operating practices, including:
Before initial use, ensure that all synthetic round slings incorporating previously used or welded fittings are proof tested by the manufacturer or a qualified person.
Other new synthetic round slings and fittings need not be proof tested, although the employer may require proof testing in purchasing specifications.
Do not allow polyester round slings to be used in contact with objects or at temperatures in excess of 194 degrees F (90 degrees C), or below minus 40 degrees F (minus 40 degrees C).
Some synthetic yarns do not retain their breaking strength during long-term exposure above 140 degrees (60 degrees C). Consult the sling manufacturer for the effects of long-term heat exposure.
Long-term exposure to sunlight or ultraviolet radiation can affect the strength of polyester round slings. Consult the sling manufacturer for proper retirement criteria for polyester round slings subjected to long-term storage or use in sunlight.
Chemically active environments can affect the strength of synthetic round slings. Consult the manufacturer before using a sling in such environments.
Ensure that in chemically active environments the cover is the same yarn as the load-bearing core.

In a round-robin tennis tournament, each individual or doubles team plays every other competitor within a specific group. The team or individual that wins the most matches is declared the group’s winner. A typical round-robin tournament features several groups, with the winners of each group often meeting in a final or semifinal match. In these cases, a single winner must be chosen from each round-robin group, even if more than one competitor finishes with the same record within the group.
The easiest way to break a tie between two competitors in a single round-robin format is to use head-to-head competition. The competitor who won the match between the individuals or teams is declared the winner. In a double round-robin format, of course, it’s possible for two competitors to split their matches. Depending on the number of competitors involved, it’s also possible for more than two individuals or teams to tie for first place. In this case, check the record of each competitor against the other teams or individuals that tied for first place.
In a nine-player group, for example, it’s possible for three players to tie for first with 6-2 records, while the other six players all have 3-5 records. In this case, look at each leading player’s record against the other two players who tied for first. If each has one win and one loss against the other two leaders, you’ll have to use another method. But if one leader has a 2-0 record against his co-leaders, declare that player the round-robin winner.
If the competitors’ head-to-head records are equal, compare each competitor’s percentage of sets won. Extending the example of the three-way tie, if each player has a 1-1 total record against the other two leaders, compare the number of sets it took each player to win his matches. If one player won a best two-sets-of-three match against a co-leader in straight sets, while the other two required three sets to post their victories, the player who won in straight sets can be declared the winner. If each individual played the same number of sets against the co-leaders, calculate the percentage of sets each player won throughout the entire rou
